Allah says We command the ihsan towards our parents. What is the ihsan? The ihsan is the perfection in all our deeds. Remember when Prophet Gabriel asked Prophet Muhammad about ihsan. And the Prophet said, Allah is commanding us with the same ihsan, the same goodness, the same kindness, the same obedience to our parents.
Why? The mother carried him or her in his belly with hardship. And she delivered him or her with hardship.
The pregnancy and the nursing took her 30 months. Until the baby reached a certain age of being able to carry things, to take care of himself. And Allah explained that.
When he reached the age 40, then he prayed to Allah by saying, Make it easy for me to be able to appreciate all your blessings on me and all your blessings on my parents. Make it easy for me to be able to achieve good things in life. Not only me, including my children.
Make them righteous children. Make them obedient children. Oh Allah, I'm repenting to you.
That submits themselves to all your teachings. That submits themselves to all your awareness and the commandments. Brothers and sisters in Islam, our parents, they are the outside of the door of the Jannah.
They are the middle of the door of the Jannah. In the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad, he said, Prophet Muhammad said, Our parents, they are the middle gate to the Jannah. Whoever likes among us, let him make sure that he takes good care of that door by taking care of his parents, by spending his time, his energy, his strength, his wealth, his money to take care of them, to make them happy in this life.
May Allah make it easy for all of us. In the Hadith of Sahab al-Jalil, Prophet Muhammad made it clear also that one can be denied the Jannah of Allah if he's a disobedient child to his parents, by him disobeying his parents. Remember that Hadith, when Jabir ibn Samit said, Prophet Muhammad climbed up to the minbar, and said, Prophet Muhammad said, When he came down, he asked, Jabir ibn Samit said, Ramadan has come to you, and you have not been denied it.
Say, Ameen. I said, Ameen. And he said, Say, Ameen.
I said, Ameen. In that Hadith of Jabir ibn Samit, he said that Prophet Muhammad climbed the minbar one day, and he said, And when he came down off the minbar, the companions of Prophet Muhammad, they asked him, And Prophet Muhammad said, came to me, and he said, Despite all the effort of a man, despite all his Salat, despite all his fasting, despite all his goodness in this life, whoever that Ramadan met him in this life, and he was unable to earn the maghfirah, the forgiveness of Allah, till the end of the month of Ramadan, he or she will be dwelled in the hellfire. And he said, for the second Ameen, Jibril came to me again, and he said, Despite the effort of a man, your name was mentioned in his presence, and he didn't seek for the blessings of Allah upon you, he or she will dwell in the hellfire.
Say, Ameen. And I said, Ameen. And in the third Ameen, Prophet Muhammad said, Jibril came to me, and he said, Despite the effort of a man, despite all his Salat, despite all his fasting, despite all his goodness, whoever met his both parents alive, or he met even one of them, and they passed without a sin or a sin being forgiven, Prophet Muhammad said, he or she will dwell in the hellfire.
Brothers and sisters in Islam, if you have the opportunity of having any of our parents alive today, let us buy our Jannah through them. Prophet Muhammad, in many Ahadith, he taught us the importance of being nice to our parents. He also mentioned in Ahadith of Abu Darda, when Abu Darda went to Prophet Muhammad, and he said, What are the best deeds to Allah? What are the best deeds in front of Allah that can earn someone huge reward? And Prophet Muhammad said, The first is for you to observe your Salat on time.
When it comes in, to attend the Jammah, and he said, What is after that? Prophet Muhammad said, The next Salat is, For you to be nice to your parents. For you to be kind to your parents. For you to try all your possible best to make your parents happy.
May Allah make it easy. And he said, After that, what next? Then Prophet Muhammad said, To partake in the Jihad, in the war. May Allah make it easy and increase us in Iman.
Brothers and sisters in Islam, To be nice to our parents. With that, you will earn the pleasure of Allah. You will earn more blessings of Allah.
Because Prophet Muhammad said in Ahadith of Abu Darda,
(Al-Adab al-Mufrad)
The Rida, the pleasure of Allah, is in the pleasure of our both parents. And their Sukht, their Ghadab, is also their anger. The anger of Allah comes with the anger of the both parents.
May Allah increase us in Iman and make it easy for all of us. There is a story that the Ulema say that this Rida is Da'if. The story of the man that was about to die, and he couldn't die until his wife went to Prophet Muhammad, telling the Prophet that, The man has been suffering.
We are unable to relax because of what he was going through. Oh Messenger of Allah, we need you to come and pray for him. And when Prophet Muhammad reached him, he asked for his mother.
And he said, Mother, can you tell me about your son? In that weak Hadith, Prophet Muhammad said, Tell me about him. And Prophet Muhammad said, I don't want you to lie. And he said that, Hey, he is a disobedient child to me.
And Prophet Muhammad said, You have to pray for him to be relieved. And he said, Oh, I'm not going to pray. And Prophet Muhammad said, Okay, I have to get the firewoods.
I will burn him alive so that he can grow faster. And then the mother said, Oh no, in front of me? May Allah make it easy. Let us try all our possible ways to make sure that we are trying all our possible ways to make our parents happy.
May Allah make it easy and reward us abundantly. As Muslims, we have to be nice to our parents. Never insult your parents.
Never say any statement that will make your parents mad. Please. For we that we are still having, both of them or one of them alive.
Allah mentioned in the Quran, In that Ayah in Surah Al-Isra, Never say, أُفٍّ to your parents. Never say, What's going on? What's wrong? Never shout on them. And talk to them, address them kindly.
May Allah increase us in Iman. Whatever we are giving today, we are giving it as loan. And our children will pay us back as we are paying our parents today.
In the story of a man, a gardener, that was farming in a farm. And a rich man used to watch him, needs to look at him, why that this man is working tirelessly. And one day he called on him, and he said, Is the land that you are working on yours? And he said, No.
I was working for somebody. And he said, Are you satisfied with what they are paying you? And he said, Yes, I'm okay. How much were they paying you? And he said, They were paying me only 4 Kirish.
4 Kirish is not for you? He said, Yeah. And he asked him, How are you spending it? And the man said, I spend one Kirish on my family, and I spend another Kirish to pay back the loan that my parents owed me when I was young. And the third Kirish, I'm using it to give as a loan for my children so that when I also reach that age, my children will pay me back.
And he said about the fourth Kirish, I'm using it, spending it in the path of Allah. May Allah make it easy for all of us. Brothers and sisters in Islam, let me remind us also that we have to try to take care of our parents, even if they are non-Muslims.
Remember the story of the mother of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas. The one that Allah revealed that very important ayah in which Allah says, When Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, when he embraced Islam, his mother refused to accept him. And the mother said that, I will not eat or drink until you deny Islam and Prophet Muhammad.
And she continued like that until one day, when he passed out and she woke up again. And she asked, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, Was it not in your Quran that Allah says, Is it not in Quran that your Quran says that you have to be nice to your parents? The ulema of the tafsir said, Because of that, when his mother was about to curse him, to pray on him, Allah revealed that ayah that says,
If they encourage you to associate any partner with Allah, then you have the right not to listen to them. Not to follow them. But Allah says, But you have to be nice to them. You have to be kind to them. We pray that Allah make it easy for all of us.
For all our children, all our parents that have passed away, may Allah have mercy on them and forgive them. May Allah end them in Jannah. And for all our parents that are still alive, may Allah give them long life.
May Allah make it easy for us to be able to take good care of them. May Allah make it easy for us to be able to take good care of them.
