Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
From my end and on behalf of the entire board, Eid Mubarak to the entire family. May Allah accept from all of us.
Instructions for Salat al-Eid
Just quickly to explain the method of Salat al-Eid inshallah. After the very first Takbeer, Takbeer al-Tahreema, the opening Takbeer, we will make seven extra Takbeerat. Seven extra Takbeerat. When the Imam says اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ, when he is making the extra Takbeerat, you are not required to say the Takbeerat out loud. You can say it quietly but you just recite the Takbeer.
We will have Surah al-Fatiha, and just like any other Salat. As we begin the second Raka'ah, we will begin with five extra Takbeerat. Five extra Takbeerat. And then we will conclude the Salat as we usually do.
After that inshallah, we will have a brief Khutbah. It is highly recommended that you sit down for the Khutbah. The Khutbah will be brief inshallah, so try to stay behind for the Khutbah. Jazakumullahu khair.
Also, I do have to mention that please on your way out, after everything is done, do take your time. It's raining outside, it's very slippery. Do take your time. And also on your way out, if you can, whatever you can donate inshallah for the sake of Allah for the Masjid operations, please donate generously.
The Legacy of Ibrahim (AS)
Ibrahim said that for every single hair or every single wool of hair on the body of the animal, you'll be forgiven - a sin will be detached from you. So this is what we always remind ourselves, especially in these days of Dhul Hijjah - that who our father was and what did he stand for.
In this brief khutbah, brothers and sisters, I want to highlight just a few things that we can take from the story of Ibrahim, our dear father.
First: The Importance of Submission to Allah
Number one is that no matter what the situation was, no matter what the circumstances were, this is a person who taught us how to submit to Allah. He taught us the true meaning of obedience - that no matter whether you're going through difficulties in life or easy times in life, the priority of our life has to be Allah.
Think about for those who have gone for Hajj or when you go for Umrah - just like we circulate the Kaaba while we're doing Tawaf, the Kaaba is the central point while we're doing Tawaf. Likewise, Allah has to be the central point of our entire life. Whether I'm a worker, whether I'm an employee, whether I'm a father, whether I'm a mother, whether I'm a grandparent, whether I'm a son, a daughter, a brother or a sister - no matter who you are, we all have certain responsibilities and we all have to submit to Allah. Even when it comes to our daily lives, we do things that are in accordance to the obedience of Allah.
This is the most important thing that we learn from the story of Ibrahim. Allah said to leave your family in a desert - he never questioned Allah. Allah told him to sacrifice your son - he never questioned Allah. No matter what test Allah sent Ibrahim's way, he passed each of them with flying colors.
So the most important thing, the very first lesson to be learned from the story of Ibrahim, is the importance of submission to Allah - to be a servant, a slave who is always concerned and focused on the obedience of Allah.
Second: Standing Up for the Truth
The second thing that we learn from the story of Ibrahim is that he was a person who always stood up for the truth. As a young man, Allah inspired him to go and break the idols. He knew the possible and the potential consequences, yet he did what Allah told him to do.
As a young man, just like any other young man, they always want people's approval, they always want people to like them. Ibrahim - he did what Allah told him to do, which is to always speak up the truth. When it came to his people, he spoke up the truth. When it came to his father, he spoke up the truth, but he did it in a very, very respectful way.
We cannot - even if I want to talk to my elders, if I want to correct them, I have to do it the right way. But the most important thing that we learn from Ibrahim - and these were not just the two occasions, there were many other occasions in which Ibrahim spoke up the truth even though people may not like it.
In a time like today, with the political climate that is taking place today, it is imperative that we always speak up the truth. If someone does not like the fact that we are standing on the side of the oppressed - it is not just about Palestine, it's about standing on the side of the oppressed and standing against the oppressors. It does not matter who they are. We will always stand on the side of the oppressed, whether people like it or not, whether society wants to say something about us or not. But we always have to stand our ground, always speak the truth.
As Rasulullah says, the best form of jihad, the best form of struggle, is to speak up the truth in front of a tyrant. So in times like these, what we learn from Ibrahim is number one: submission, but at the same time, number two was to speak up the truth and always stand on the side of the truth.
Third: Leaving Behind a Legacy
And the third and last thing I will share with you today, with myself and all of us here today, is the importance of leaving behind a legacy. Ibrahim's legacy was that he taught his children. Ibrahim's legacy was that he built the Kaaba. Ibrahim's legacy is that till today, every person goes for Hajj and Umrah - we revive the legacy of the entire family of Ibrahim.
Brothers and sisters, I ask you - what is your legacy? Now you might think that I may have to do something of great magnitude in order to have a legacy. No, you don't. No, you don't.
Your legacy is right in front of you - they're called your children. That is your legacy. You want Deen to go on to the next generation? Then teach your kids Deen. Teach them the Quran, teach them the Sunnah of Rasulullah. Teach them Adab, teach them respect, teach them etiquettes, teach them mannerisms. Teach them what it means to be a strong, confident Muslim. Teach them everything that you need to be teaching as a parent. That is your legacy.
You don't have to go and open up an institution to leave behind a legacy. You don't have to open up and donate a lot to leave behind a legacy. All you have to do is that the legacy that's sitting right in front of you - you focus on them and you teach them. Let them be your legacy so that when you leave this dunya one day, they are going to be the ones who are going to take Deen to the next generation. That is what you need to focus on, that is what we need to focus on.
So what we learn from Ibrahim: submission to Allah, standing up for the truth, and leaving behind a righteous legacy through our children.
Is leaving behind a legacy. The question is again, I'm going to ask you all and the question we need to ask ourselves is what is our legacy? What am I going to be remembered for after I pass away? There are people who pass away and they are not remembered, they are forgotten. And there are people that we bury them here, in our cemetery at Farmersville, until today, we still remember them like Uncle Ghulam. SubhanAllah, he was with us here in last Eid. Uncle Ghulam was an amazing individual, but this is called leaving behind a legacy. We remember these people till today and everyone else. The question is, what again, what legacy are you leaving behind? Are you going to be a person that we are going to take to the graveyard and bury you, and then you'll be forgotten? Don't become like that person. Be the person that you'll be buried like anyone else, but then people, they have learned something from you, or you have left behind righteous children, that they become your صدقة جارية (sadaqah jariyah). May Allah grant all of us tawfiq, insha'Allah.
Three Lessons from Ibrahim's Story
So again, the three things that we learned from Ibrahim's story today is number one: submission. Number two was speaking of the truth, always standing on the side of the حق (haq) whether people like it or not. And the third thing is leaving behind a legacy, and it starts with your children. May Allah grant all of us tawfiq. May Allah give us ability to learn from the story of Ibrahim and apply his teachings into our life, آمين يا رب العالمين.
Day of Eid and Making Du'a
Brothers and sisters, today is the day of Eid. As you can see, outside it's raining and we have learned from the hadith of Rasulullah, that when the رحمة (rahmah) of Allah comes down, make a du'a, because the du'as made at that time are usually accepted. So ask Allah, make du'a to Allah.
So many of us wanted to go for hajj. We want to go for hajj but we don't know where to start from. This is the time, ask Allah. May Allah take those who always wanted to go for hajj, may Allah take them for hajj and may Allah make it easy for them to go for hajj. And may Allah for those who have already done hajj, may Allah still take them again and again many times.
Spending Quality Time with Family
Again, on this day brothers and sisters, this is the day of happiness. Spend quality time with your family. Spend quality time with your family. Give something to your child, give them a gift. As I said last time in Eid al-Fitr, you don't have to buy an iPhone for them if they come with that request, you don't have to honor that request, but buy something that is good for them. Buy a small gift for them, take them somewhere, do something with them, spend quality time with them. This is what needs to be done on this day of Eid so that, I'll finish on this, so that when our kids grow up, when our kids grow up and we may not be there, they understand that if we don't celebrate any other holiday because we have two Eids, that is our legacy, one of the things that we leave behind for our children. You don't have to worry about all the other holidays. We have two Eids and these are two days of our celebration for every single Muslim. May Allah grant all of us tawfiq, insha'Allah.
Du'a for Protection and Guidance
We ask Allah to protect us, may Allah protect our Islamic institutions, may Allah protect our masajid, may Allah protect our brothers, may Allah protect our sisters, especially when they go out, may Allah protect them, may Allah protect our children, may Allah protect all the Muslims around the entire nation.
Islamophobia is on the rise. May Allah destroy the oppressors, may Allah destroy the oppressors, may Allah keep them far away from us. May Allah, first of all, we ask Allah to grant them guidance, may Allah give them hidayah first. And if Allah has not destined hidayah for them, then we ask Allah to peacefully remove them.
We ask Allah to grant us every khair and every good that Muhammad has ever asked for. May Allah protect us from every evil and harm that Muhammad has ever sought protection from, ameen.
