What Should I Do In The Month of Ramadan During Menses?
What should I do in the month of Ramadan when the time of my menses or menstrual cycle or my monthly cycle comes? This is a question many of us have on our mind and perhaps many of us have even asked. What do I do when I come across the time of my month where it's my menses? What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to fast? Is it a choice? Is it an option?
Is Fasting Permitted During Menses?
The answer is that we are not allowed to fast. A person will not be allowed to fast during that time of the month. They will do other types of ibadah to connect to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and increase their spirituality, but they will not be allowed to fast.
Making Up the Missed Fasts
However, they will be required to make up those fasts after the month of Ramadan. Unlike salat — when a person is going through their cycle and their menses, they do not pray, neither do they have to make up their prayer. It's very specific.
But when it comes to fasting in the month of Ramadan, a person that has to miss their fast will not get any sin — there is no blame on them — but rather they will have to make up their fast before the next Ramadan comes, preferably before the next Ramadan comes and as fast as they can. It is not forgiven, but rather it's just delayed till after the month of Ramadan.
How to Stay Spiritually Connected
So how should we feel spiritual then? We feel spiritual through other means of ibadah and worship such as:
- Dhikr — the remembrance of Allah
- Serving people
- Muraqabah — reflecting and thinking about the greatness of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
- Listening to different halaqas
- Enjoying different classes of knowledge that are being provided throughout the month of Ramadan
Through those means we hopefully can increase our spiritual strength, and when we are allowed to fast we continue our fast like anyone else would. And إن شاء الله this will give us the fruits of the month of Ramadan.
