Summary
Opening Praises to Allah
- Seek refuge in Allah from the evils of ourselves and our bad deeds.
- Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whoever He misguides, none can guide.
Testimony of Faith and Prophethood
- Testify to the Oneness of Allah, who has no partner.
- Testify that Muhammad (PBUH) is His servant and messenger, who conveyed the message and fulfilled the trust.
- Send blessings upon Prophet Muhammad, his pure family, and his righteous companions.
The Command of God-Consciousness (Taqwa)
- O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared.
- Do not die except while you are Muslims (in submission to Him).
- Taqwa is the foundation of our faith and a continuous state of awareness.
Taqwa and Human Origin
- Fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul.
- From that soul, He created its mate, and from them both, He dispersed many men and women.
- Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs (relations).
- Indeed, Allah is ever-watchful over you.
Muhammad: The Praised One
- Allah Himself praised him in His book, highlighting his unique status.
- He was chosen by Allah as His Khalil (most intimate friend) and final prophet.
Exalted Character of the Prophet
- Allah describes his character as 'most exalted' in the Quran.
- He is the ultimate role model for all humanity in every aspect of life.
- His character embodies the perfection of Islamic teachings.
Opening Praises and Supplications
Inna alhamdulillah, nahmaduhu wa nastaeenuhu wa nastaghfiruhu wa nastahdeeh. Wa na'udhu billahi ta'ala min shururi anfusina wa min sayyi'ati a'malina. Man yahdihi Allahu ta'ala fa laa mudhilla lah. Wa man yudhil fa laa hadiya lah.
Wa ash'hadu an laa ilaha illa Allahu wahdahu laa sharika lah. Wa ash'hadu anna sayyidina Muhammadan sallallahu alayhi wa sallama abduhu wa rasuluhu. Wa safiyuhu wa khaliluh. Ballaghal risalah. Wa adda al-amanah. Wa nasahal ummah. Wa jahada fee sabeelillahi haqqa jihadihi hatta atahul yaqeen.
Allahumma salli wa sallim wa barik ala sayyidina Muhammad. Wa ala alihi al-tayyibin al-tahireen. Wa sahabatihi as-saliheen al-ghurri al-mayameen. Wa man tabi'ahum bi ihsanin ila yawm al-deen.
Amma ba'd. Fa inna asdaqa al-hadithi kitabullah. Wa khayra al-hadi sayyidina Muhammadan sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Wa sharra al-umuri muhdathatuha. Wa kulla muhdathathin bid'ah. Wa kulla bid'atin dalalah. Wa kulla dalalahin finnaar.
The Most Praised Man
Brothers and sisters, I want to talk to you about a man today. A man who we praise every time we say his name. Because his name itself means the praised one. A man who Allah himself praised by saying about him in his book:
That indeed you are upon a most exalted form of character.
A man who Allah chose out of all humanity to be his khalil, his most intimate friend. And to be his final prophet and messenger to humanity. A man whose name Allah has attached to his own name, so that every time we profess the oneness of Allah and mention his name, we also mention the name of this man:
Allahumma salli wa sallim wa barik ala sayyidina Muhammad wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in.
Loving the Prophet is Part of Our Faith
Brothers and sisters, it is part of our deen. It is part of our iman to love Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. None of us can truly believe until we love Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam more than anything else in this world. None of us can truly believe until the words and commands of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam take precedence over our own wishes and desires.
