Eid Al Fitr 2025 Khutbah | Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi | EPIC Masjid

Insha'Allah, less than 10 minutes insha'Allah ta'ala so that we can move on to the next because we have four Eid prayers today. Also, there are multiple positions amongst the scholars whether you should have two khutbahs or one khutbah - they're all allowed. The one that I follow is one straight khutbah so we will not be sitting down, we're just gonna be doing one khutbah insha'Allah and then after that you are free to stand up and greet one another so bismillah insha'Allah, let us begin the prayer.

Allah is indeed greater and more majestic than any other entity. الله أكبر - There is no deity worthy of worship other than Allah. الله أكبر - Who guided us to Islam. الله أكبر - Who blessed us with the Quran. الله أكبر - Who made us the best of all ummahs. الله أكبر - Who chose for us to be in the ummah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Dear Muslims, today is the day of Eid. Today is Eid in the year 1446 of the Hijrah. Today is Eid ul-Fitr, one of the holiest days of the year, and inshallah ta'ala I want to share with you three short and quick messages.

First Message: Personal Relationship with Allah

The first message, the first risalah that I have on this day of Eid: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that the righteous people they will have two joys - they will have the joy of celebrating, the joy of dressing up, the joy of family and friends, and the joy of the angels greeting them that their sins have been forgiven. We want to have both of those blessings.

O Muslims, Allah has blessed us to fast the month of Ramadan. Allah has blessed us to stand the nights of Ramadan. Allah has blessed us to raise the bar of piety in Ramadan. Now that Ramadan is over, the Lord of Ramadan remains and shall ever remain. Now that the worship of Ramadan has finished, the worship of the rest of the life has begun.

O Muslim, do not be like the one whom Allah سبحانه وتعالى mentions in the Quran - the example of the lady who wove an intricate rug, an intricate tapestry, and then she herself after spending so much time making it, she tears up her own carpet. The metaphor is: don't be the one who built up iman, who built up piety, only to destroy it with your own hands.

O Muslim, my first message to myself and all of you: concentrate on your own relationship with Allah. Nothing is more important than that - everything else is secondary. Concentrate on developing a strong relationship with your Creator. Make sure you are regular in your prayers. Make sure you are fasting the month of Ramadan. Make sure you give your zakat. Make sure you abstain from the major sins and repent to Allah if you have done any sin, and attempt to come closer to Allah and never give up coming closer to Allah.

The most important aspect of this world and the next is our piety, and Allah will judge us not on the actual output but on the input. Allah will not judge us based upon the quantity but the quality of our sincerity.

So O Muslim, my first message: now that Ramadan is over and we have demonstrated to ourselves and to Allah that we can raise the bar of piety, we can be better people, we can come closer to Allah - now put that demonstration into action and try your best to maintain a better lifestyle until the next Ramadan, if Allah allows us to remain until that Ramadan.

Second Message: Global Awareness and Representation

The second message I have, the second risalah I have, is global. The first was personal, the second is global. Look at what is happening around the world. Look at the reality of the situation in Gaza. Look at the reality of the rise of Islamophobia in our own lands, and realize Allah has tested us by putting us in a time of great turmoil. We thank Allah we are not in the thick of things over there, but we also have a responsibility over here.

O Muslim, my message to you is very clear: absorb what is happening around the globe, pay attention to those events, and then allow those events to motivate you in your own journey. Make sure you are contributing back, make sure you are attempting to better the situation by whatever means you can, and everybody has a different role to play.

For some people, maybe they can do nothing other than genuinely feel sympathy and make dua - and just make dua for the people in Gaza - and if that's all they can do, that is all they are required to do. But others might be able to lobby, might be able to petition, might be able to argue online or change the hearts and minds or raise public awareness or do fundraisers at a higher scale. You know best what you can do.

My plea to you is very simple: do not remain disassociated from what is happening. The rise of Islamophobia right now is another threat. We've seen this multiple times, but every time Allah has protected us and Allah will continue to protect us, but we have to do our part.

And the most important part that we all play is we show the positive image of Islam to our colleagues, to our friends, to our neighbors. Every one of us is a representative of our faith, so make sure you embody the values of the faith. And what is happening in Gaza and what is happening around the world - the least we can do, the least we can do is to better our own lives around other people so that they understand the beauty of our religion.

Do it for the sake of Allah, do it for the sake of Gaza, and that is your sacrifice: change your lifestyle, be more honest, be more compassionate, be a person who has the highest ethics in your office for the sake of Allah and then the sake of Gaza, and that will be your contribution. We might not see victory in our lifetimes, but victory is promised by Allah سبحانه وتعالى and all we have to do is put in the effort.

That is my second message: look at what is happening in the globe and use that as an incentive to better you. So the first message on a personal level, the second global level and what that should impact.

Third Message: Prioritizing Family

And then the third and final message: individual, ummah, family, family. O Muslims, we live in lands and times where the notion of family is being targeted, the idea of what it means to be a family is being disrupted, the family itself is under threat. Divorce rates are at an all time high. Therefore, it becomes especially important that every single one amongst us prioritizes the family.

We are all members of a family. We are all a part of a bigger network. We all have, inshallah ta'ala, people that are blood relatives to us, and Allah has blessed us and tested us with those relatives. This is the reality of life. Allah has tested us and blessed us with wife and children, spouse and children - they are a blessing and a test. So prioritize the family.

Make Eid the day to bring family together. Shower your children with love on this day. Let them have positive memories of Eid for generations to come. Let them remember this day as a blessed day of sweet memories, so that when they become in your shoes and they have children of their own - your own grandchildren - they will pass down the religion of Islam, they will pass down the rituals of our faith. Prioritize family, sacrifice for family, spend and invest on family and the extended family as well - siblings and uncles and aunts.

We all have issues - this is the reality. Today is the day of forgiveness. Go ahead and text them. Go ahead and mend those bonds. Go ahead and wish them the best Eid and make dua for them. Today is the day of family. Prioritize the family.

Our Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم told us that Allah سبحانه وتعالى himself has said that my name is Ar-Rahman and from my name I created Ar-Rahim, the family. My name is Ar-Rahman, from my name I created the family. Whoever fulfills the family has been in touch with Ar-Rahman, and whoever breaks the family has broken the ties of Ar-Rahman. So fulfill the ties of kinship.

Conclusion

O Muslim, these are my three simple messages to you on this day of Eid: make sure you have a strong relationship with Allah. On this day of Eid, see what is happening around the globe and realize you are an ambassador and you are representative of our faith. And on this day of Eid, prioritize the family for the sake of Allah and then for the sake of your future children as well.

Let us now make a dua to Allah:
