One Ummah, One Body

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. He conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, and advised the ummah. Allah has removed the burden from us through him.

O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him and his family and companions. May Allah be pleased with our masters, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, and all the companions. And the one thing that we can do for them right now is to make du'a from the bottom of our hearts.

And say:

Brothers and sisters, if you feel sad and upset and frustrated because of what is going on, say الحمد لله — because Allah has given you a good heart. Say الحمد لله — because you are applying the hadith of Rasulullah ﷺ:

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6011; Sahih Muslim, Book 45, Hadith 84)

That the example of the believers is just like the one body. We are one body and one ummah. We feel the pain of our brothers and sisters. We feel the pain because of the massacre that is happening to them right now and the world is silent. The world is silent.

If you feel the pain in the depth of your heart, say الحمد لله — because you care about your fellow brothers and sisters. Your brothers and sisters and the shuhada on the Day of Judgment, they are going to say جزاك الله خير — at least you shared the pain with us.

Brothers and sisters, I know that the past khutbahs have been about the qadiyyah al-Filastiniyyah and about what's going on in Gaza, because we cannot live normally while there is so much injustice happening in the world. And we feel, سبحان الله, weak and helpless. Allah tells us in the Qur'an — He knows what we feel right now.

It's the best time to get back to the Qur'an now. You know why? The Qur'an will give you clarity. The Qur'an will comfort your heart. Everything you have in your mind, Allah speaks about. Allah tells us:

Do not feel sad. Do not feel weak. And you are the superior — if you are true believers.

والله إن العين لتدمع وإن القلب ليحزن وإن على ما يحدث لإخواننا في غزة لمحزنون، ولا نقول إلا ما يرضي ربنا:

What Can We Do to Help?

Dear brothers and sisters, what can we do to help them? And before I mention that — while I was checking the many videos, one of them really stopped me. The video of one brother in Egypt, he was standing by the crossing, the Rafah crossing in Egypt. He was a trucker. And he was waiting there for five days and every single day they denied him — they didn't allow him to enter to help the brothers and sisters in Gaza. And in the video, he was screaming. He said:

"Wallahi, I will never leave. I am here because the people on the other side of the fence, they need support and they need help. They're dying — I can die with them. I don't care, but I need to help them."

سبحان الله العلي العظيم. That reminds me of Ghazwat al-Yarmouk, the Battle of al-Yarmouk. One of the best situations and stories that we hear — there were a lot of injured Sahaba, companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and they were trying to save them. So they would take some water and ask them to drink. The first person — when they wanted to give him a drink — they heard somebody else in pain. So he said, "Give it to my brother next to me." And the next person said, "Pass it to the next person." So when they went to the last one, he said, "Take it back to the first one — he needs this sip of water more than me." So they went back to the first person — he was dead. The second person was dead. And the third person was dead. Look at this sacrifice of the Sahaba of Rasulullah ﷺ.

1. Supplicate — Make Du'a

Du'a is a powerful weapon. I know that a lot of the brothers and sisters might say, "Sheikh, we've been making du'a for 75 years, for 80 years, but nothing is happening." Allah has been pleased because of your du'a. Wallahi. We always think that making du'a for nasr — when we say اللهم انصرهم, "O Allah, give them victory" — we think we should see the outcome of our du'a in our lifetime. Who said that? The outcome of your du'a might come later, after we pass on. And your du'a is so effective.

Where do you think they're getting this sabr and this patience from? Billahi 'alaykum — someone watches his whole family, 20 people dead in front of them, and they're saying الحمد لله، وإنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون. Where are they getting this iman and this sabr from? From Allah — because of our du'a as well. When you say اللهم انصرهم، اللهم صبِّرهم — O Allah, be with them — that is how Allah is with them: giving them sabr, sakinah, comfort, and tranquility.

Supplicate. Make du'a for them. InshaAllah, Rabbul Alameen, in our salah we will make du'a — du'a al-nazilah, sunnah from Rasulullah ﷺ. Even Rasulullah ﷺ made du'a during Ghazwat Badr for nasr. Make du'a for your brothers and sisters in your qiyam. Qiyam al-layl, Ikhwan — pray two raka'at for Allah by yourself and make du'a for them. Supplicate.

2. Educate

This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to learn our history. There is no khayr in an ummah or a nation that does not read history. Why? Because what is happening — what has been happening — is because we don't understand our haqq over there. And a lot of Muslims are confused, and of course our children. When you talk to them about Palestine, they will say, "It's an Arab country fighting another state." We tell them, Habibi, this is Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa. Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa. You're a Muslim — that is your masjid. That was our first qiblah. We used to pray towards Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa. If you say it's not your business, there is no khayr in that. You cannot say it's not your business. It is your masjid.

Rasulullah ﷺ — think about it — went all the way to Jerusalem, to Al-Quds. Allah could have sent all the prophets and messengers to Mecca. Why did He have the Prophet ﷺ go all the way there? He is directing our attention: this spot is a very unique spot. That is our history. A lot of Muslims don't even know who lived there first — was it the Arabs? Was it the Muslims? The Jews? The Christians? We don't know our history.

Brothers and sisters, this weekend, dedicate some time to learn about the history of Bani Israel and the history of Palestine. It will give you clarity. You will not be confused. Read the history and teach your children. That is an amanah. That is their haqq upon you — to teach them. Otherwise, this qadiyyah will die. This cause will die. We will leave this dunya; our children are not attached, not linked, and they will do whatever they want. The masjid is gone. Palestine is gone.

And what about justice? It is a qadiyyah 'adilah — a just cause. Someone steals your land, سبحان الله العلي العظيم, and establishes a state over it, and then says "this is our place, just leave" — and keeps expanding, getting more settlements. This is unfair. This is unfair. And if we don't speak up about it — they are trying to scare us, that is what they're trying to do. But I tell them again: our kids and our families are not better than the families and the kids over there. They're not better than the people being massacred over there. You might lose your paycheck — who cares? People are losing their lives.

Brothers and sisters:

They're trying to scare us but we are not scared. Do you know why? Because we seek the Jannah of Allah, while they seek the dunya. Nothing will happen except with the permission of Allah.

3. Donate

They need every single penny. They need billions of dollars to survive over there. Don't say "it's not my business, I just care about myself." That is their right upon you. On the Day of Judgment, your brothers and sisters in Gaza will stand against you and say, "You had money, you had a house, you had everything, but you never thought about us." Donate and help them. And don't worry — the rizq is from Allah. If Shaitan is trying to push you away, watch a couple of videos of the children over there being massacred. Supplicate, educate, donate — and finally:

4. Advocate

Allah knows how much we want to help, but we can only do so much. Whatever it takes, brothers and sisters — be their voice. Speak on their behalf. As we speak right now, they have no internet. They cut off all internet. There is no internet over there. There is no electricity. There is no food. There is no water. And yet there are headlines worried about rescuing pets while humans are dying. Shame on that. We must be their voices.

When there is a protest, it is your haqq. Speak on their behalf. This is justice. Go and be there, and say to the whole world that what is happening is wrong. They are scared of your voice. They are trying to silence you — that is exactly what they are trying to do. But we tell them again: we will go, inshallah, and we will tell the entire world that this is injustice, this is not haqq, and this is oppression. Talk to your officials. Email. Do whatever it takes.

At least on the Day of Judgment, when Allah asks you what you have done for your brothers and sisters, you say: "O Allah, I have done whatever I could have done at that time." That should be your answer to Allah. Talk about the qadiyyah. Educate people about the qadiyyah. Make du'a. Supplicate. Donate. And educate your brothers and sisters and your family.

I say this and ask Allah to forgive me and you.

Second Part of the Khutbah

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His chosen servants. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and there is no partner for Him. I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Allah knows our intentions, our hearts, and He sees that our hearts are in pain because of what is happening and because of the silence of the world. But we believe with full conviction that Allah has hikmah — wisdom — for everything. We believe with full conviction and yaqeen that one day the haqq will prevail. Allah has decided that the haqq will prevail eventually — with us or without us.

Allah told us everything in the Qur'an. Allah told us in the Qur'an that they fear you more than they fear Allah.

Brothers and sisters, keep your brothers and sisters in Palestine and Gaza in your du'a. Educate yourself about the history of Palestine. Donate to your brothers and sisters. And finally, advocate on their behalf.

Closing Du'a

We ask Allah to give our brothers and sisters victory. We ask Allah to accept our martyrs. We ask Allah to accept their martyrs. We ask Allah to have mercy on them. We ask Allah to have mercy upon our brothers and sisters in Gaza. We ask Allah to protect them. We ask Allah to feed them. We ask Allah to provide them with water and food. We ask Allah to take care of and rid the world of oppression anywhere. Allahumma ameen.
