Surely! We Will Be Sufficient For You Against the Mockers

Opening Du'a

The Incident of the Danish Cartoons

My dear brothers and sisters, back in 2005, I was still a student at Al-Azhar University in Egypt, and that is when a very well-known, very famous incident took place where an artist, a cartoon artist in Denmark, he drew some very inappropriate pictures about Rasulullah Some of you may remember this incident. And during that time, the whole entire Muslim world, they took to the streets and they were very frustrated and very angry. So a lot of people, brothers and sisters, during that time, especially our non-Muslim friends, they were just wondering — why? Why is this so important for you guys? Why you guys are frustrated? Just take it easy. It's a couple of pictures and a couple of cartoons — what is the harm? What's the big deal?

And a lot of them, I remember very well, spoke to me and they said: can you tell us something about why you guys love that man, Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, so much? What is so special about him?

So brothers and sisters, during that time, there was one ayah that we recite all the time, yet we did not really understand the meaning behind it. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says to the Prophet

"Surely, We will be sufficient for you against the mockers." Those who mock you and Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ — We will never let them get away with their action. That is not acceptable for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

Those Who Mocked Were Never Spared

Brothers and sisters, if I may humbly request that those who are using their cell phones put them away, out of respect for the masjid and respect for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and His presence. Alhamdulillah, you came and you left your job — maybe that was your lunch break, maybe you had school, maybe you had some other things — but Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala brought you here for a reason. Don't be distracted by the dunya. Nothing will change — don't worry. The stock market will be the same, world trade is still functioning, nothing is really happening because you're not checking your social media or your phone. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless you. Ameen.

Back to Rasulullah — and let us increase our salah and salam upon the Prophet There will be khayr happening in dunya and the Hereafter. In dunya, when you make salah and salam on the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, wallahi you will see a lot of khayr in dunya. And at the end I'm going to share a story with you insha'Allah to prove that — something that personally happened to me.

So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said: We will not let them get away with their actions. It will never happen. It has never happened — not since Abu Lahab and Abu Jahl, and then since the artist in Denmark, and the Swedish man, and the French President Macron. We know what happened to all of them.

The Danish man passed away back in July 2023, and subhanAllah, with a very severe, very serious illness that had him confined to his house for many, many months. The second one, the Swedish man, also died in a very terrible car accident. And the third, the French President Macron — what happened? We saw someone slapping him in the face in front of everybody. This is the payback. They will never get away with their actions against Rasulullah

What Is So Special About Rasulullah?

So brothers and sisters, back to the question — what is so special about Rasulullah Let me talk to you about a man — that man Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ — he has more than two billion followers, yet he does not have a Facebook account, he does not have a TikTok account, he does not have a Twitter account, he does not have an Instagram account. He has more than two billion followers worldwide, Please say: sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Reason One: Allah Loves Rasulullah

Why do we love Rasulullah There are so many reasons. Number one — because that love is coming from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Because Allah loves Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, and if Allah loves Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, we should love him as well. Where is the evidence, Sheikh? We have so much evidence in the Qur'an that Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ was very special to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala honored Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ in every aspect of his life — matter of fact, even in his body. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala honored him and praised him in his intellectuality, his intelligence, and his mind:

مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍۢ

They used to call him insane. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala defended him and said: "By the grace of your Lord, you are not insane." And then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala praised and honored Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ in his truthfulness:

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌۭ يُوحَىٰ

Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ does not speak from his own accord. Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ only speaks wahi — revelation from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala honored the Prophet and praised his heart:

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ

His heart did not doubt what he saw during Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj. And then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala praised and honored Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ in everything:

وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍۢ

"Indeed, you are a man of great manners." And then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala even swore by his life:

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

"I swear by your life, O Muhammad, that they are wandering in their intoxication."

Brothers and sisters, if we look into the Qur'an, we will be amazed at the love from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to Rasulullah Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala called the other prophets and messengers by their names directly. But when it came to Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, He said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ ۝ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ

"O Messenger... O Prophet." And when He mentioned the name of Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ directly, He paired it with his mission:

That's why we love him so much — because the muhabba is coming from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And what can we say about Rasulullah When Allah wanted to send praise and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad He did it first:

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ ۚ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا

"Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O believers, do the same — send prayer and peace upon the Prophet."

There are still some brothers and sisters who are not saying sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. See, this muhabba is coming from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

Reason Two: He Sacrificed Everything for Us

Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ was the one who brought Islam to us. He sacrificed everything for us — for you and for me. Imagine if Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ did not accept this message. Imagine if he said, "I'm not taking that mission." You and I could have been something else. But because of that, we are in the tawhid. We're in the deen of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Shouldn't we say sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for that?

Reason Three: He Misses Us and Keeps His Du'a for Us

Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ loved us so much and he cared for us. He cared for you and for me as well. There is a hadith — a very well-known narration — where Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ was talking to his companions and he said:

وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ إِخْوَانِي

"I wish that I would be able to see my beloved ones — my brothers." (Sahih Muslim, Book 2, Hadith 367)

Then the companions of Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ looked at him and said: "What? Aren't we your brothers, Rasulullah?" He said: "You are my companions." So who are the ikhwan, Rasulullah? He said: "Those who will come after me, after you. I will not meet them, but they will believe in me and believe in my message."

So Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ misses you and I, brothers and sisters. Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ thinks about you and I. And Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ kept one du'a because he cares for all of us.

Every single messenger and prophet, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given them a du'a mustajabah — a uniquely answered prayer — for them to use in dunya. The messengers and the prophets of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, they asked with this du'a in dunya. Nuh alayhi wa salam — what did he say? He said: "Ya Allah, I am fed up from these people. Take care of them, Ya Allah." And Sulayman alayhi wa salam said: "Allah, forgive me. And grant me a kingdom that no one will ever have anything like it." And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala responded and granted him the wind — it takes him wherever he wants.

But when it came to Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, he kept that du'a. He kept that one particular prayer for all of us — for the Day of Judgment. When we need intercession, when we are stuck because of our shortcomings and our sins and our ma'asi and sayyi'at, Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ will come to intercede on our behalf. He kept that du'a for you. Shouldn't we love that man so much? Shouldn't we appreciate and value that man, Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, brothers and sisters?

Why We Were Not Happy with the Cartoons

That's why we love him. That's why when they said something about him, when they drew a cartoon about Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, we were not happy with it. Of course, we condemn violence — we should not tolerate violence. But we showed the whole entire world, like what you guys have done in the Paris Olympics — making fun of Jesus and making fun of the prophets and messengers of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala — that this is not acceptable for us. There is no exception. It's not just about Rasulullah It's about everything. It's not about freedom of speech here. When it comes to the prophets and messengers, anything divine should be respected, regardless, brothers and sisters.

Reason Four: You Will Be with Him in Jannah

They were asking why we love Rasulullah? Because Allah loved him so much. Because Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ cares for us so much. Because Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ will give us the intercession on the Day of Judgment. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala grant us the shafa'ah — the intercession — of Rasulullah

We love Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ because if you love him, you will be with him in Jannah insha'Allah. Thawban, one of the great companions of the Prophet, he came to him, and Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ had this connection with the Sahaba where he would understand and feel when they were not feeling good, when they were disturbed, distressed. He would feel for them. So he said: "Ya Thawban, you don't look good. What's going on?"

He said: "Ya Rasulullah, every time I remember that in Jannah both of us are not going to be on the same level — you'll be somewhere else — meaning I'm not going to be in your company, I feel sad, Ya Rasulullah." Then Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ told him that if you follow Allah and you follow the messenger, you will be in Jannah with whom you loved in dunya. So if you love Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, you will be with Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ in Jannah insha'Allah.

How to Follow Rasulullah

So brothers and sisters, how can you follow Rasulullah? Not just by seeing Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, but by actually sending salah and salam upon the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, and then acting upon and following the Sunnah of the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

How many Sunnah do you follow from Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ every single day? When was the last time you prayed Salat al-Sunnah? When was the last time you did something because Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ did it? And subhanAllah, we are very good at imitating and copying the Hollywood stars and artists and all of these people. We follow them and we do everything — especially our youngsters, subhanAllah. But when it comes to Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ, it's backwards: "Why do you have to copy someone who was alive 1400 years ago?" But subhanAllah, if you follow the Prophet, you will be with him insha'Allah.

And the most important thing is the akhlaq — the manners of the Prophet Do not just talk to people about Rasulullah Show the akhlaq of Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ in your actions, in your amal.

A Personal Story: The Barakah of Salawat

This is my second khutbah for today. I just gave the first khutbah at Frisco, and because I love this community, alhamdulillah, when I was approached to give the khutbah here, I came as well. I drove all the way here right after the first khutbah. My khutbah there was the same one, and I said: I am dedicating this day to the love of Rasulullah Because I know that if you have this intention and you send many salawat, I was in the car sending salawat and salam on Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ with the intention that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives me something.

Wallahi, ikhwani — wallahi — as I was coming here, a few minutes before I arrived, I received a phone call from a school that I had applied to, alhamdulillah, for a master's degree in mental health counseling, alhamdulillah rabbil 'alamin. There was one particular program that I was very interested in. As I was on my way to the masjid, by the barakah of Rasulullah I received a phone call saying: congratulations, you're accepted to that master's degree.

Wallahi, the salat and salam on Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ does miracles — wallahi l-'azim. Try it insha'Allah. If you have a hajah, a need, send the salat and salam on Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ — 100 times, 200 times, as much as you can — and you will see it happen for you.

Closing Du'a

We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to unite us with Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ and to grant us the shafa'ah of the Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
