A lot more people coming inside into the main hall, please. As you're doing that, just a couple of quick announcements. As we know, alhamdulillah, we are past our 15 days. Just reminders that parking, again, as we get into the last 10 nights, please remember that the police academy is not available for Friday parking during Jummah, but it is available for Taraweeh. Also, we do not want to keep our cars there past midnight. So please make sure that you remove your cars, especially if you're here for Itikaf, make sure that you bring your car, you park your car either at Haraz or at EPIC parking lot. Otherwise, it'll cause us a lot of problems at the police academy.

Last but not least, the community news, we have the Hidayah Academy in Mesquite Islamic Center, there's an Islamic course, their enrollment is open for Alim course by Sheikh Azhar Iqbal, this is an online course for professionals. There's a brother, Dr. Adil Shibley, he's gonna be standing outside. He's over there, he will be standing outside distributing the flyers. Opening Du'a and Gratitude

We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to accept our Ramadan. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala accept our du'as, our qiyam, the recitation of the Quran. Any khayr that we do in the month of Ramadan, may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala accept from all of us, آمين رب العالمين. We ask Allah azza wa jal to not hold us accountable for our weaknesses and our shortcomings in the month of Ramadan. And may Allah grant us many more Ramadans. May Allah grant us the last ten nights of Ramadan, آمين رب العالمين.

The Importance of Your Support

Brothers and sisters, as I was standing here last week in front of you, again, I'm standing in front of you with the same purpose. As you all know that when it comes to the masjid, when it comes to the affairs of the masjid, the services that we provide at the masjid, it comes at your donations. Your donations is the one that fuels all these services. And without your donations, without your support, we cannot do all this.

Many people believe in the EPIC community that we have some kind of a reserve pool of cash lying somewhere. EPIC is mashallah, you know, they have a direct access to the treasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. To get to that treasure, we need your donations.

So with that in mind, inshallah, I don't want to take too much time. But, you know, you all love coming to the masjid. Alhamdulillah, the vibe that we have here at EPIC, so many people come. Despite the troubles, the challenges that we have at parking, so many people love coming to EPIC. It's because of these services that we provide, the atmosphere that we provide over here. But at the same time, it all comes at a cost.

All these police officers that you see standing outside, guiding the traffic without their support, things will become a mess here. This is not a free service by the city of Plano. This is something that we have to pay for. When it comes to the electricity of the masjid, especially in the month of Ramadan, the water bills, everything from A to Z, everything that you see, it is not free. It comes because of your donations, and we can only take care of them through your donations.

Call for Monthly Donors

So without taking too much time, inshallah, I'm going to begin. And what we're looking for is for donors who can donate on a monthly basis, inshallah. Can I get the first kareem or kareemah? And as we know from the Prophet ﷺ, if there was one month in which he was the most generous, it was the month of Ramadan.

So with that in mind, inshallah, is there any kareem or kareemah who is willing to give $500 on a monthly basis for the sake of Allah? Any kareem or kareemah here to give $500 on a monthly basis? Can I get at least just one or two kareem or kareemahs?

And also, I said this last week, and our sisters, please listen to me very carefully. Our sisters are loaded, okay? Our sisters are mashallah, they drive nice cars. As an imam, when I see the ladies in the cars that they drive, mashallah, okay? So you have the money, mashallah, and so please, can we get the first one?

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, He promises that anyone who gives, Allah will return that to them. There is never a situation where you give for Allah's sake, and then you will lose that money. Closing Blessings and Reminders

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala reward you all. May Allah bless you all. And please, once again, as Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says:

Introduction and Prayer

And may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, every single person who wants to give, and they cannot give due to their financial constraints, may Allah put barakah in their lives, so that they can give for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

I ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that just as he has gathered us here today on this day of Jum'ah in the month of Ramadan may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gather us along with our families in Jannah for Daws al-A'la in the companionship of Rasulullah ﷺ and his Sahaba. Ameen. Ya Rabb al-'Alamin.

The Swift Passage of Time and Ramadan

Brothers and sisters, just a few weeks ago we were talking about Ramadan is coming, Ramadan is coming and subhanAllah we're almost done with two-thirds of the month of Ramadan. And just like this our life goes by too. Yesterday we were children then we became teenagers then adults and parents and then as life progressed limitations came in and we became seniors and then we leave from this dunya. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is reminding us that just like Ramadan is going by so fast and every year it just seems like Ramadan just goes by even more quicker than the previous year. And just like that we'll be standing here on the day of Eid celebrating each other. But brothers and sisters for the remaining days that we have left in the month of Ramadan let's try to take advantage of this because time will not stop for anyone and Allah says in the Quran that those who utilize their time wisely they are the ones who will succeed and those who do not use their time wisely they are the ones who will be in a state of loss.

So with that in mind inshallah there's just a few points I really want to make in this khutbah.

Understanding the Value of Ramadan

The very first one is we need to truly understand what is the value of Ramadan. Because in life if you don't value something or you don't understand the value of something, you're not going to be able to cherish that value. You only understand the value of something when that value has been taken away from you. Now when it comes to Ramadan many of us we approach Ramadan that is just a month of fasting I'll go through the drills, I will fast during the day I will come at night, I'll pray qiyam, I'll be tired throughout the entire month, I'll be exhausted there'll be fatigue. And we go through this entire month but not understanding that what is the value of Ramadan.

And just to help you understand, to help us understand what is the value of Ramadan, think about this story that took place in the time of Rasulullah ﷺ Two people, two people who came to the Prophet ﷺ and they both converted to Islam at the same time both of them took their shahada at the same time. One of them died in a battlefield. And when you talk about a battlefield you're talking about a shaheed. That before their blood touches the ground, Allah forgives all of their sins. We're talking about a person who gave their life for the cause of Allah. And then there was a person, the second person who took the shahada he died a year later. He died of a natural death. But a person saw in their dream that the person who died a year later of a natural death went into Jannah went into Jannah before the shaheed. And he went to Rasulullah ﷺ and he said that, this does not make sense to me ya Rasulullah. How can the person who died of a natural death, one year later went into Jannah before the shaheed?

Look at the response of Rasulullah ﷺ. He says

Didn't the person who died a year later, did he not have an additional month of Ramadan? He had an additional month of Ramadan. And not only that but so many extra thousands of raka'at compared to the person who died in the cause of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

One Ramadan brothers and sisters, for that person, put him into Jannah before even the shaheed. This is the power of Ramadan. This is the power of fasting. This is the power of this beautiful month. This blessed month by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. So that is why do not ever underestimate the power of Ramadan, the beauty of Ramadan, the barakah of Ramadan. Because every single time we fast, every page of the Qur'an we recite, every tear that we shed, or every dua that we make, or every single second that we spend in sajdah, and putting our heads on the ground before Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, a person can elevate themselves into Jannah. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make us from the people of Jannah, ameen. But brothers and sisters, this is what the value is of Ramadan.

Ramadan is About Taqwa

The second major point I want to make is that Ramadan is about taqwa.

This is a time where we need to take an account of ourselves. How much taqwa, how much taqwa have I been able to build in my life? And truly the test of taqwa comes after Ramadan, when there is no more qiyam, when there is no more fasting, and people have stopped coming to the masjid. That is where the true test of taqwa takes place. But Ramadan is a time to train. Just like right here you have, right next to epic you have a training facility, where police officers they go, they drive between the cones, they go through active drills. Why? So that when the time actual comes to exercise and to utilize these skills, they are skilled enough to take care of their responsibilities. Likewise Ramadan is that training time, that we develop the love for the Qur'an in the month of Ramadan. We develop the love for taqwa in the month of Ramadan. So that when Ramadan finishes, then we have that taqwa, we have that qiyam, we have that fasting, so that we can continue our spiritual journey after Ramadan.

But this is where we need to ask ourselves, how much taqwa do I have in my life? Before Ramadan came, I may have had weaknesses and shortcomings, but how much am I staying away from those shortcomings? Have I built a connection with Allah? How much Qur'an have I recited? Qur'an, before Ramadan I talked about this. The most important thing that we do in the month of Ramadan, when it comes to the Qur'an, is to recite the Qur'an. To recite the words of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Everything comes afterwards. The tafsir of the Qur'an comes afterwards. The talks, the khatiras, the shuyukh, and all these talks, and all these khatiras, they all come afterwards. First comes the recitation of the Qur'an. We are 18 days into the month of Ramadan, how much Qur'an have we recited? So this is, the second point is, this is a very important time to ask ourselves, where do we stand in terms of our taqwa, in terms of our Qur'an?

The Last Ten Nights: The Most Crucial Time

But the third point, which is the most important point insha'Allah, I will focus on this for the remaining of the khutbah. As we all know that the last 10 nights are approaching. Monday night insha'Allah will be the very first odd night in the month of Ramadan. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala grant us the ability to witness those nights.

But as our mother, Aisha radiallahu anha, she says that what was the nature of the Prophet ﷺ? She says that,

(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

When the last 10 nights will begin, she says أَحْيَا اللَّيْلَ that he will spend the entire nights up in the ibadah of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. He will be up all night long. وَأَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ and he will wake up his family. And then she says وَشَدَّ الْمِئْزَرَ, that he would tighten his waist belt. And this is usually an expression to indicate that something, you want to do something with extreme amount of focus. That there will be no distractions. It's almost as if that when you and I are about to do something very serious, we want to focus. Some people they put aside their phones. Some people they roll up their sleeves. Likewise, the Prophet ﷺ is, this is sort of an expression that now the last 10 nights have begun. Whatever distractions that did exist, he will put aside all those distractions so that he can focus on these last 10 nights of Ramadan.

But at the same time when we talk about the ending, this is the ending. The last 10 nights of Ramadan is when the time where we need to exert ourselves. And this is something that you will see in life also. When it comes to sports. People who understand sports, you understand this example. When it comes to the last of the game, that is where people exert their most amount of focus and they are dialed in. They are focused on what is at task, what is at hand. This is what happens when it comes to the final exam. The final exam usually indicates whether you will pass or you will fail that course or that semester. Likewise, when it comes to the end of Ramadan, we are tired. There is no doubt fatigue. We have headaches. We have body aches. We're just trying to get through in Ramadan. But now comes the last 10 days and whatever energy we can muster up in these 10 nights, we try to give everything that we can for these 10 nights of Ramadan. And this is what it is.

Laylatul Qadr: The Night of Divine Decree

But at the same time, when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,

Think about these nights. How blessed these nights are that Allah is saying, I reveal the Qur'an. Meaning Allah revealed the Qur'an in this night of Laylatul Qadr. Out of 365 days, Allah chose this night to reveal the Qur'an from the Lawhul Mahfuz to the skies above the earth. And from there, it was revealed during the course and the span of 23 years. Out of all the nights, He chose this night which tells us that these are the nights of ibadah.

And not only that, but the ulamas, they explain that what does Qadr mean? What does Qadr mean? Some ulamas, they say that Qadr here is in reference to divine decree. The Qadr that we all believe in. The ulamas, they say that this is in reference, the word Qadr here means to measure something, to determine something, to ordain something, to decree something. And that is why Imam Abdullah says that

He says that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala called this the night of Laylatul Qadr. Why? Because Allah decrees in it what will occur in the upcoming year. In Suratul Dukhan Allah says

We have revealed the Quran in a blessed night, an auspicious night. And Allah talks about this night فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ Every single important matter, wise decision is settled on this night.

So brothers and sisters when we say that tonight could be or the night of Laylatul Qadr, whenever they come, these are the nights of divine decree. This is where we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And when you ask Allah as they say that your dua can change the Qadr it does not necessarily change the Qadr. Because if Allah changes the Qadr due to our duas this change has already been recorded in our Qadr. It's not that we are actively changing the current Qadr right now.

The Meaning and Significance of Laylatul Qadr

But nonetheless duas can change the Qadr as we have learned from the Prophet. So that is why on these nights make a sincere dua to Allah. Another meaning of Qadr is الشرف والعظم. It means a great honor and great status. That is why Allah says, and listen to the words very carefully of the Quran:

Allah says they did not value Allah with His true worth. So Qadr here means to understand the magnitude of something. And that is why Imam Al-Qurtubi he says, سُمِّيَتْ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ لِعَظِيمِ قَدْرِهَا وَشَرَفِهَا - That this night, these nights are called the night of Laylatul Qadr because of its immense honor and immense greatness.

So that is why, why are these so great? And what do we get on these nights? Allah says:

These are better than a thousand months. Another definition of meaning of the word Qadr is ضيق, something that is restricted. Why do they say that it is restricted? Because on this night as Allah says:

Can you imagine? This is the night where not only Allah revealed the Quran but these are the nights that the angel, the greatest of all the angels أعْظَمُ الْمَلَائِكَةِ أفْضَلُ الْمَلَائِكَةِ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ - him and other angels they come down on the face of this earth and we are surrounded by those angels on those nights.

The Preciousness of These Nights

Think about how precious those nights are brothers and sisters. So that is why when you have so many angels that have scattered the earth and there is no room to walk for these angels that is why the ulama they say that one of the definitions of qadr is that it is restriction that there is limitations of places to walk because there is so many angels on the face of this earth. Then another meaning of qadr is القدرة which means power and authority that is the nights of qadr they refer to the divine power and the authority of Allah.

So with all this in mind we cannot escape the idea, we cannot just ignore the idea that these nights are very very important. And another beautiful thing, listen to this very carefully, why did before Allah, before he even talked about what is the beauty what is the reward of Laylatul Qadr, Allah mentioned Laylatul Qadr three times:

And there are some ulama they say the reason why Allah he did this is because to help us understand the عظمة, to help us understand how precious these nights are, Laylatul Qadr, Laylatul Qadr, Laylatul Qadr. Like imagine if there is something that is so important and something that everyone knows about and you go to a person and say have you heard something about this and they're like no I have no idea about this and usually our first response is how do you not know about this, do you not know what this is, like everyone knows about it. Likewise Allah is saying وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ - don't you know what Laylatul Qadr is, and then Allah is telling us what Laylatul Qadr is.

The Reward and Value

So that is why brothers and sisters these are nights where when we worship Allah it is more than a thousand months. How much is a thousand months? It comes out to be 83 odd years. Think about it on one night, on one night you can worship Allah and it will be equal to over 83 years of ibadah. SubhanAllah just in one night, if there is anything that we learn from this, this is the رحمة of Allah.

So that is why, and not only that but these are the nights where the ملائكة they come on the face of this earth and Allah sends down his peace and سكينة on these nights, and that's why he says:

That there is peace in the night until طلوع الفجر, not طلوع الشمس, طلوع الفجر until the time of Fajr.

Preparing for the Last 10 Nights

So that is why brothers and sisters, as we are approaching these last 10 nights of Ramadan, let's try to understand the value of these 10 nights, let's understand what Ramadan is, what Ramadan signifies, and put aside everything, any kind of distraction that is in your life even if you are here in the month of Ramadan and you are using your phone, try to stay away from the phone in these last 10 nights of Ramadan. Try to stay away from anything that is considered as دنيا.

Of course I am not saying that we abandon our responsibilities. We have family responsibilities, we have job responsibilities we have to, and we must take care of those things. I am not saying that we abandon our core responsibilities. I am saying that after our core responsibilities, we have a tendency to waste time on certain things, let's try to remove those kind of distractions in these last 10 nights of Ramadan.

True I'tikaf According to the Sunnah

For those who are doing i'tikaf, try to stay away. SubhanAllah, when we see what i'tikaf has become in America, there is an i'tikaf based on the sunnah of Rasulullah, and now there is considered as the American i'tikaf, and the American i'tikaf is people are coming, bringing their laptops, bringing all their work here and they are doing work throughout the entire day, and then this is not necessarily i'tikaf.

Of course I am not saying again, if there is something that is absolutely important, you have to take care of it, you have to take care of it, but i'tikaf means that you come and you are isolating yourself from the دنيا so that you can focus on your spirituality and this is what true i'tikaf is, according to the sunnah of Rasulullah.

I ask Allah that he gives us the ability to witness these last 10 nights, to understand the value of these last 10 nights of Ramadan, and may Allah accept, more than anything may Allah accept from us in these last upcoming nights.

The Best Part of Ramadan is Beginning

In conclusion, brothers and sisters, Ramadan is not ending. The best part of Ramadan is just beginning. The gates of mercy are still open and the nights of qadr are fast approaching. Our sins can still be forgiven, our heart can still be changed and our قدر, our destiny can still be transformed.

So as we approach these last 10 nights, approach them very carefully. Approach them as the Prophet would approach them with effort, with tears, with Quran, with dua because one night, and one sincere dua and one moment of repentance can change our entire life. This is the reality.

And I conclude by reminding myself and everyone here, the best dua to make in these last 10 nights, in these upcoming last 10 nights of Ramadan, is:

Final Du'as

I ask Allah to forgive us, forgive us for our shortcomings. May Allah have mercy on all of us. May Allah help all of our brothers and sisters around the world wherever they may be. May Allah destroy the ظالمين. May Allah destroy the oppressors. Ya Allah, we ask you that they have a plan, but you ultimately have your plan. Ya Allah, destroy their plans.

Ya Allah, in this month of Ramadan, when we see so much chaos every single year in the month of Ramadan there is some kind of chaos taking place in the Muslim world. Ya Allah, we ask you, we plead to you, we beg you, Ya Allah, to destroy the ظالمين.

Prayer Requests

There are a few requests for du'as. First of all is Brother Harun Khan who got a request from Brother Muhammad Razeeb Hassan, who is requesting du'a for his mother, Fayroza Begum. She is in critical condition and in life support. We ask Allah to grant her شفاء.

Number two is Sister Noorun. She is requesting du'a for her sister Aisha Haq. She is extremely sick. We ask Allah to grant her شفاء.

And finally, there is a Brother Qazi. He has a restaurant in the Allen area. This brother, if you don't know, when Epic was much smaller, we used to have iftars in the month of Ramadan. He used to sponsor iftars to our community, subhanAllah. So Brother Qazi, he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We ask Allah that all these people who are sick, may Allah grant all of them شفاء.
