As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatu Llāhi wa-barakātuhu

The takbīrāt are important as sujūd but they are not as important if the imam misses the counting of the numbers - it's not a big deal, it doesn't require sujūd and it doesn't require the brothers from the back saying سبحان الله - the salāh is not invalid. No ya ikhwān, the takbīrāt, alḥamdulillāh, are from the sunnah - optional but inshā'a Llāh we'll try to follow the sunnah according to the opinion among the scholars that all the takbīrāt in the first rakʿah - eight takbīrāt - and then inshā'a Llāh the second rakʿah - six takbīrāt, the total of the takbīrāt six takbīrāt inshā'a Llāh bi-idhni Llāh.

After salāh, as you know, the khuṭbah - we are permitted to leave and we are highly recommended to stay inshā'a Llāh. We'll try to make the salāh short and also the khuṭbah short because I know we are late in performing the salāh because of the rain and because of the crowd outside. The Shaykh is wet and I'm sure that half of the people are like this, alḥamdulillāh inshā'a Llāh.

If people want to plan to, inshā'a Llāh, bi-idhni Llāh listen to the khuṭbah, stay quietly. If you want to leave, leave quietly inshā'a Llāh. But some brothers and some sisters, they keep the running saying Eid Mubārak and hug one another and they make another khuṭbah while the imam is giving the khuṭbah. Please, jazākumullāh khayr - and it's only one khuṭbah and one imam otherwise, I will charge you jazākumullāh khayrān.

May Allah accept in your sujūd, make duʿā. This is the best day in the year - the day of An-Naḥr is the best day in the year. Make duʿā for your family members in your sujūd, make duʿā for everyone, make duʿā for the oppressed Muslims everywhere. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala accept from all of us and may Allah make it Eid Mubārak to all Muslims Ya Rabbil Alameen. Jazākumullāh.

The Day of An-Naḥr

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, we witness one of the best days in the year - the day of An-Naḥr, the day of Al-Ḥajjul Akbar, the day of Eid Al-Adha. Our brothers and sisters, they are completing the rituals of Hajj. We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to accept from them and we ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to enable all of us to make Hajj to the house of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Allāhumma āmīn.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, despite the happiness that Eid brings, we shouldn't forget the oppressed ones all over the world - our fellow humans who are suffering and their blood is shed. Ya Allah, in this blessed day of Eid, we ask you to alleviate the sufferings of our brothers and sisters. We ask you to make an end for this suffering. Ya Allah, we ask you to save their blood.

The Legacy of Ibrahim

Dear brothers and sisters, in this day, around 4000 years ago, we remember the legacy of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) - the father, the mother and the son. The three heroes.

Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was tested in everyone he loved. He was tested in his wife Sara and he was tested in his wife Hajar when he left her alone with his baby, and then he was tested in his son. But he submitted himself to Allah. He's teaching us the real meaning of Islam - to accept whatever Allah decrees whether it matches with my desire or it doesn't match. If Allah decrees something, I accept it. Ya Allah, we listen and we obey. Ya Allah, whatever you decree, we know this. We know this before our creation. Before the creation of the heavens and the earth, You decreed that this will happen to us, so we should deal with this with patience.

This life is full of hardships and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and our messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him), Ayyub, Nuh, all the messengers and prophets and the elite and the sahaba - they went through hardships and they went through hard times, but they expected the reward from Allah and they dealt with it with surrender, with acceptance.

Hajar: The Mother of Faith

Then we come to Hajar, Umm Ismail. Umm Ismail - the mother of Ismail. She passed away. She didn't know that there would be Kaaba here. She knew actually that there would be Kaaba here but she didn't see it. She was told by Jibreel that there would be Kaaba here. She was told by Jibreel that her son would be a prophet and from his lineage came Muhammad (peace be upon him). But she didn't see that.

She didn't know that we go and walk between [Safa and Marwa] copying what Hajar did. She didn't know that we drink till now from Zamzam water that Allah made it a miracle for her. She didn't pick the fruits, but she planted. Iman, serenity, hope in Allah.

Ismail: The Obedient Son

Ismail (peace be upon him) - the third hero in the story, in the legacy. He was a beautiful son. He listened to what his father said. He didn't object. He didn't say "I follow you in everything except what you are planning to do."

He responded to Allah and he was beautiful to his son. A lesson for our youngsters - that we should fulfill all the wishes, all the commands of our parents as long as they are in the scale of halal.

Honoring Our Parents

We shouldn't tell our parents that "You are old fashion, I know better than you. You were born overseas and I was born here and I know much better than you. You don't know the culture here, I know it better than you."

Sometimes we argue. Sometimes we try to challenge everything our parents say. Try to make sure and prove that they are wrong and that we are right. You are breaking their hearts and they are the ones who love you more than they love themselves. If someone were to sacrifice his life, it wouldn't be your friend that you hang out with - it would be only your father or your mother. They love you but they know better than you. They are worried about you and they want you to be the best person. They are the only people who want you to be better than them.

The symbolic story says: An enemy for the mother convinced the son to kill the mother and get the heart out and bring it to him to get the dollars and the gold and the prize. He did, but he was in a hurry to get the money. He fell down with the heart of the mother in his hand. The heart of the mother, as the story says, started to talk - not blaming the son for killing her, but telling the son who fell down "Oh my son, are you okay?"

In this moment the son woke up and he says "How dare I did this for my mother?" With the same knife he wanted to kill himself. The heart of the mother talks again saying to him "Don't kill me twice - by killing me first and killing yourself." Those are our parents.

If you know how much your parents love you, ask your father and mother. If they have a deceased father or mother, how much do you pay to return one hour with your father and mother? They will tell you we are ready to pay everything that we have for just half an hour that we hug and kiss the feet, kiss the hands, kiss the head of the father and mother and just look at them.

How lucky we are while we have our parents alive. Wallāhi, the time that we buried them, we feel the loss that we and the calamity that we will be in without a father and without a mother. The life is really hard. It's a blessing our youngsters - before it's too late, go today. Kiss them, hug them, tell them I'm sorry. Don't break their hearts. They love you more than they love themselves.

The True Meaning of Eid

The real Eid is when we return the glory back of the Muslim Ummah through the ilm, through the knowledge. The real Eid is when we follow the guidelines of the Quran. The real Eid is when we follow the sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The day of Eid is the day of happiness, the day of tolerance, the day of forgiveness. This is the time to forgive - forgive your spouse, forgive the people who are around you. Do not have a discord for years and years with everyone. Make sure that this is because of the shayṭān.

The shayṭān is not worshipped in the land of Allah, but he seduces to evil. This is the time to reconcile with the people who are around you.

Compete to enter Jannah that is prepared for al-muttaqīn. Al-muttaqīn are the ones who forgive, who tolerate, who suppress their anger. The shayṭān doesn't like you to have a happy life with the people who are around you, but we are required to forgive and to tolerate. We will have a lot and a lot of reward, so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala loves those who forgive, loves those who tolerate, loves those who always find excuses.

Find excuses for people. Don't be like the shayṭān who always seduces to evil and to cut the relation with others. And remember, this life is really short. Remember the day of judgment when the sun gets closer and the earth will be shaky. At that time Allah will send angels to invite those people whom Allah will give them the reward that is beyond any expectations. Who will follow the angels? The people who follow the angels are the ones who used to forgive and tolerate.

Advice for Our Sisters

We end our khuṭbah with our advice for the sisters, as Rasūlullāh (peace be upon him) used to do this. Our sisters, you are the guards of the fortress. Your home is a fortress. Do not let the enemies penetrate from your sight. Stick to the hijāb. The first madrasa is not the Islamic school - it is the house. Teach your kids the Quran. Teach them the dīn. Care for their salāh. Fear Allah pertaining your hijāb, pertaining anything that displeases Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

Inculcate in the minds of our families the love of Allah and his messenger.

Final Du'a

We ask you on this blessed day of Eid to accept from all of us, to alleviate the sufferings of our brothers and sisters all over the world, to make an end for the bloodshed of the Muslims. Save the blood of the Muslims everywhere. Save the blood of every human. Make us among the righteous ones. Make Islam and Iman in our offspring till the day of judgment. Give us barakah in our health, in our wealth, in our spouses, in our kids. Make Islam and Iman in our offspring till the day of judgment.

Every year, and you are doing well. May Allah accept from us and from you. And a blessed Eid. May Allah reward you well.
