A Community Under Challenge
Alhamdulillah, we have a full house. EPIC obviously is loved by many people. They cannot sleep without us, so they keep us focused on what we need to do. In response to that, Alhamdulillah, EPIC is working very closely with the legal team. We are not sitting quietly. We are fighting back. We are responding to them. So rest assured, our legal team, our PR team, we're going to be onboarding a PR team, and we're going to be working with the marketing team as well to become more proactive on one side, and also respond to the challenges, the accusations that are being leveled against us, false accusations if I may add, misleading information and whatnot. So Inshallah, we'll keep you posted. Rest assured, we are on top of everything that is going on, including what was distributed in Walmart, ridiculous, false, misleading information, Alhamdulillah.
On your way out, all of this, the operations need your support. So on your way out, if everybody can help us out with whatever you can, $10, $20 per person, it will go a long way and will help us not only work with the operations, but also fight this Islamophobic, ridiculous rhetoric that is going against especially us. Jazakumullah Khair.
Allah keep all these beautiful faces away from the hellfire. Ameen Ya Rabb Al-Alameen.
Just have a request for dua. Our brother Uwais, a regular Musalli, his grandmother passed away yesterday. And yesterday also we had a janazah for brother Javed Iqbal, the father of our brother Shiraz and the grandfather of our dear Hamza. So we ask Allah Azza wa Jal to forgive all their sins. إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ.
We ask Allah Azza wa Jal to give them the highest place in Jannah and forgive all their sins.
The Sacred Trust of Parenthood
Just before I go up, please, I noticed that some, I don't know about the sisters, some brothers, while I am in the khutbah, they are playing with their phone. Texting, maybe checking social media, subhanAllah. Allah subhana wa ta'ala narrowed down the whole week to half an hour and we still want to go back to dunya in this half an hour. So please, just be patient. I promise you, you can make it. You can survive this half an hour without the phone. Focus on the khutbah inshaAllah ta'ala because if you compare it to playing with the pebbles, Rasulallah ﷺ said, if someone play with the pebbles, the Jum'ah is gone. So it's not worth it. Allah blessed you that you made the effort and made it easy for you to come to his house. So please take advantage of that and skip that. Just a few moments inshaAllah ta'ala and focus on the akhira. Jazakumullah khair.
The closest translation is trust. So when I give you an amanah, I give you a certain amount of money as an amanah. Or I give you my home keys and I traveled and I told you these are the keys and amanah. Check on the house, do one, two, three. It means when I come back, I'm going to ask you for the amanah and expect that you have taken care of the amanah.
Allah Azza wa Jal has given us many amanahs. And one of the most precious amanah that He gave us is our children. And He will, when we return to Him, He will ask us about that amanah. And Rasulullah ﷺ confirmed that when he told us in the hadith that we all know:
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 93, Hadith 1)
Every single one of you is a shepherd and every shepherd, we translate it responsible, مسؤول, will be questioned about his flock. Will be questioned. Wallahi it's a very big, deep, heavy word. I'm not going to be questioned by a judge, I can lie, I can bring a fake witness. I'm going to be questioned by Allah, the Hakam Himself. We will be questioned.
One of the greatest hopes and the best wishes of every father is to have righteous children that fear Allah in public and in private, that pray on their own, that have great manners, that benefit humanity. And my brothers and sisters, after taking by all the means, after taking by the means, which is the parents not admitting they are Muslims, living on the line, the billion line, living Islam at home, teaching their children the deen, trying their best to surround them with righteous company. After all this and simultaneously with it, the best tool that Allah blessed us with as parents is the tool of dua. Dua for the children.
This khutbah is for everyone who have righteous children, for the one who have disobedient children, for the one who has no children, and for the one who will, insha'Allah, planning to have children. So it's for every single one of us.
Five Quranic Du'as for Our Children
Today, we will take five duas from the Qur'an. And we all know there is no better dua than the dua that Allah told us how to ask Him by. It's in the Qur'an. It's the word of Allah عز و جل. Five duas from the Qur'an from the parents to their children.
And Rasulullah ﷺ added on top of that, a beautiful bushra, a great glad tidings from Rasulullah ﷺ to every single parent. When he said:
(Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 8, Hadith 1536)
Three people, their dua is answered. And if Rasulullah ﷺ stopped here, that is sufficient for us. Because he is the most truthful. But he added, لا شك فيهن. There is no doubt that these three people, their dua is answered. Allahu Akbar, what a gift. Who are they, Ya Rasulullah? دعوة الوالد للولد. The dua of the parents to their children. And the dua of the traveler. And the dua of the mazloom. The dua of the one who has been oppressed.
First Du'a: For Establishing Prayer
One of the main complaints from parents about their children is their salat. Ya Shaykh, they don't pray on time. Ya Shaykh, they hardly pray. My son has wudu for six days. They pray without wudu. They lie. Even when they pray, Ya Shaykh, it is so quick. Allahu Akbar. Is there a dua in the Qur'an to fix my salat? Because I have to be the example. And to fix the salat of my children? Subhanallah.
Who could be better than Ibrahim, alayhi salam, teaching us this dua?
Ibrahim, alayhi salam, started with himself. رَبِّ جَعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ He did not say, Ya Allah, make me salli. Because there's a huge difference between قيامة إلى الصلاة وإقامة الصلاة There's a huge difference between someone get up to pray and one who established. It's just one letter, hamza. Huge, huge difference. Get up and pray, I can get up and pray and just move mechanically. Establish the salat is a completely different story. It's a lifetime practice and experience and effort.
That's why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala when He spoke about the munafiqeen, said إِذَا قَامُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَامُوا كُسَالًا When they get up, He did not say establish. When the munafiqeen, the hypocrites, when they get up to pray, they get up very lazy. Why are they praying, Ya Allah? يُرَاءُونَ النَّاسِ They just want people to see them. That's it, that's why they're praying.
A sister was visiting another sister, and while she was visiting her, all of a sudden the adhan went at home, and then the kids by themselves, they get up, Allah أكبر Allah أكبر, they start making iqama, and they start praying. So the sister looked at the other sister, what is this? You don't have to yell, you don't have to scream, you don't have to text, you don't have to... They just get up by themselves. She said, for 10 years, every sajda, رَبِّ جَعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّةِ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءٍ Ya Allah, make me and my offsprings establish salat. Ya Allah, please Ya Allah, I beg you accept this dua.
Second Du'a: Protection from Shaytan
The second dua is the dua of the wife of Imran to her beloved daughter Maryam Alayhasalam. When she said:
Can I make this dua for my newborn baby? Girl or boy? Absolutely. She made this dua, Ya Allah, protect her, not only her, and her descendants from the cursed shaytan. So when I have a brand new baby, Allah blessed me with this baby. That's a beautiful dua. Ya Allah, protect Amina, Fatima, Ahmad, Khalid. Protect them Ya Allah, just have this baby. Protect them Ya Allah, and their offsprings. Look at the long term investment. Not only I'm caring about my child, but I'm caring also about all my descendants. Protect them Ya Allah from the cursed shaytan.
And here also, same thing. Subhan Allah, this dua, a prophet made it for his two sons that became prophets. This dua, our Habib ﷺ, made it for Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein, who are Shabab Ahlul Jannah, the youth of Jannah. Allahu Akbar. If these people were dua made for, my sons and my daughters are more deserving.
Because these duas are made by prophets, they have to be very heavy, very powerful. So Ya Akhwan, before your child leave to school, before they leave to university, before when they first wake up, you put your hand on their head, for the boy. Rasulullah ﷺ made this dua for Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein, and Ibrahim ﷺ, he made it for Ismail and Ishaq. Ya Allah, I protect them, with the best and your perfect words, I protect them Ya Allah, from the shaytan, from every poisonous creature, and subhanAllah, from the evil eye, from any evil eye.
Make it a habit, just like you tell your child to brush their teeth. Mama, come over here, أُعِيذُكَ, for the boy, أُعِيذُكِ, for the girl, بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ, or you wanna gather them all together, أُعِيذُكُم, plural, I protect you, I ask Allah to protect you all. Ya Akhwan, these are tools given to us by the best man that ever walked this earth. Let's use them, because we only complain, oh my child is this, my child... He gave us, the one who gave us the children, gave us with them the insurance, the protection.
Third Du'a: For Righteous Offspring
Third, Zakariya, alayhi salam, when he walked into Maryam, and he found all kinds of fruits that are out of season, he said, Ya Maryam, where did you get this from? She said, from Allah, He is the Razzaq. هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهُ. When he saw this immediately, Zakariya made this dua:
Here, for the people who have no children, because at that time, he made this dua, and he had no children. Ya Allah, grant me, righteous offsprings.
5 Quranic Du'as For Righteous Children
Ya Allah, You are the one who hears the du'a. You are the one who answers the du'a.
Du'a Number Four - From Surah Al-Furqan
SubhanAllah. In Surah Al-Furqan, in the last two pages, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave us the description of a group of people that He called عِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ (ibadur Rahman). Allah Akbar. May Allah make us all among them.
A lot of descriptions, but they made one du'a. These ibad, they made one du'a, special du'a, all the way at the end.
Ya Allah, this beautiful du'a not only includes your children and your offspring, but it also includes your spouse. My sister, make this du'a for your husband and my brother, make this du'a for your wife. Ya Allah, make from our spouses and our offspring the coolness of our eyes and make them, our children, an example to the righteous. SubhanAllah. Very simple du'a and at the same time, I am reciting an ayah of the Quran, so I'm getting a lot of reward while I am making du'a for my children.
The Fifth Du'a - From Surah Al-Ahqaf
One of my favorite du'as, in Surah Al-Ahqaf, ayah number 15. I'm mentioning these numbers on purpose so you can go inshallah ta'ala and review them and memorize them. There are some people who come here just to come and check in for Jumu'ah and there are some people who want to come and leave as a different person. May Allah make us all among them, the second group. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala praised:
There are some people who when they hear something, they not only want to follow it, they want to follow the best of it. Who are these, Ya Allah?
These are the ones whom Allah guided and these are the people of intellect. They cannot waste any time. I have a tool. I was reminded. Some of us know this stuff already. And some of us have been reminded. So let me take advantage of it.
46:15, Al-Ahqaf, ayah number 15. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala told us specifically when you become 40. And this du'a is for everybody. You don't have to be 40 and above to make this du'a. But Allah mentioned, this is the only place in the Quran that age is mentioned, and specific age is mentioned. When you become 40, you have already, most people have already got married, they established, they matured. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said, when you get to that age:
Wallahi, I can talk about this du'a till Isha. Please, go read it with meaning. Ya Allah, help me thank you for all these blessings that you have bestowed upon me. I am a Muslim, I am attending Jumu'ah, I am praying, and all the blessings that you have blessed my parents. You have blessed my parents with so many blessings.
Ya Allah, not only help me do righteous deeds because some righteous deeds are bid'ahs. I think they are righteous. No, here I'm telling Ya Allah, أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ - Let me do righteous deeds that are pleasing to you. وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي - That's why we're mentioning it here. And Ya Allah, make not my children, not my grandchildren, not my great-grandchildren, all my descendants make them saliheen, Ya Allah. إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ - Ya Allah, I personally do not deserve it. I'm a sinner, so I repent to You, Ya Allah. But I'm proud, Ya Allah. I am from the Muslims. Allah Akbar.
Making Du'a Consistently
Brothers and sisters, these are a few du'as from the Quran. In your sujood, before your salam, at the last third of the night, the last hour of Jumu'ah before Asr, in Ramadan, in Dhul Hijjah, while you're in Umrah, while you're in Hajj, seek the time of istijabah and make all these du'as.
Now, sometimes, you speak to your children and they don't listen, you advise them, and they do not change, and you start saying, my du'a is not accepted. My brothers and sisters, Allah hears every whisper, and He sees every tear. Just be patient, and be consistent, and know that your child will go to places that you cannot go to. They go to school, they go to college, they go to the internet, they go to a friend's house. But when you are making the du'a for them, you are asking the one who can see them, wherever they are, you are asking the one who owns their heart to protect them. So be consistent on your du'a, and don't ever give up.
The Story of Al-Fudail Ibn Iyad
My brothers and sisters, there was a great scholar, his name is Al-Fudail Ibn Iyad. Search him. One of the giant scholars in Islam. Al-Fudail, he did everything possible. By the way, we cannot automatically assume that if there are righteous parents, immediately you will have righteous children. This is not an automatic assumption. They still need to do their job, and they still have to make a lot of du'a.
So Al-Fudail, one of the greatest scholars, if he is a great da'ie to people, you can just imagine what he did with his child. He has a son called Ali. But subhanAllah, Ali, after everything that he did with him, Ali was not the child that he wanted. He was not a practicing child. Imagine the son of Al-Fudail.
So Al-Fudail made a du'a, that I want every single one who is really struggling with their child. Some of their children here have left Islam. Some people have doubt in their deen. Some people are always rebellious to their parents. Listen to what Al-Fudail said. He said, اللَّهُمَّ أَدِّبْهُ لِي - Ya Allah, you know I struggled and I worked hard to raise my child and make him righteous. You know that. You are the Alim. And I failed. Ya Allah, You raise him. Ya Allah, You raise him for me.
It was said, the best man at that time, after Al-Fudail, was his son, Ali. Allah Akbar. Do not belittle your du'a.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى مَن لَّا نَبِيَّ بَعْدَهُ
A Story from the Haram
One of the guards who stand at the Ka'bah, his position is by the Multazam, that area where Rasulullah said that the du'a is mustajab. He is narrating the story. He said, One time a man came and he raised his hands and weeping, crying, non-stop. Ya Allah, أَعْطَيْتَ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ وَلَدًا فَأَعْطِنِي وَلَدًا - Ya Allah, You have gave so many people children. Ya Allah, give me a child. Give me a child. He said he stayed begging and asking for a very long time and crying and crying to the level I memorized his voice because he was very close to me.
He said, 18 years later, I was standing in my same place at my job and I hear a voice of a man raising his hand and saying, Ya Allah, destroy my child. Ya Allah, take him away. I cannot handle him anymore.
So this soldier, he said, Aren't you the one who came long time ago and you made du'a for a child? He said, Yes. He said, Come over here. He said, The first du'a that you made was wrong and the second du'a is wrong. When you ask for a child, you did not ask for a righteous child. You just asked for a child. And now instead of asking Allah to guide your child, while you are in the best place ever, you are asking Allah to destroy your child. Go back, I'm gonna take you back. I have no authority. I'm gonna take you back. Stand there and the same tears, with the same hands, beg Allah to guide your child.
So the man stood up and started crying and begging Allah, اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِ ابْنِي - Ya Allah, guide my child. Ya Allah, guide my child. After one year, he saw the man coming with an 18 year old boy. And they met the soldier. So the father looked at the son and he told him, Tell him your story. He said, Uncle, The moment my father was making du'a for me here, something happened to me. I got up and I made wudu and I started making salat.
ارْحَمُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ - Have mercy on your children. Rasulullah said, لَا تَدْعُوا عَلَى أَنفُسِكُمْ وَلَا تَدْعُوا عَلَى أَوْلَادِكُمْ وَلَا تَدْعُوا عَلَى أَمْوَالِكُمْ - Do not ever make du'a against yourself. And do not ever make du'a against your children. And don't ever make du'a against your possessions. Because it might come at a time where the du'a is mustajab, and Allah will answer your du'a. Just like the mother, when her son refused and he wanted to leave the house, and she told him, No, no, no. He said, I'm leaving anyway. She said, اللَّهُ لَا يَرُدُّكَ - May Allah don't bring you back. Three hours later, she got a phone call, he died in a car accident.
Advice for the Youth
My brothers and sisters, the youth, they might say, SubhanAllah, we came to the wrong khutbah. Listen to me carefully. If you ever think that you will be successful in this dunya, and in the akhirah, without your parents' du'a, you are hallucinating.
If your parents are still alive, go to your father's feet, go to your mother's feet, and tell them, Mama, please, I beg you. I beg you, don't ever go to sleep, and you're not pleased with me. Mama, please, ask me, ask Allah to bless me. Ask Allah to protect me, ya Allah. Mama, please, ask Allah. I'm surrounded by very bad people. Ask Allah to take them away from me. Ya Mama, the hijab is very heavy for me. Ya Allah, make it easy for me. Ask Allah, ya Mama. Baba, please, I beg you, be pleased with me.
One du'a from your parents will make you or break you. One du'a. But you know, O Shaykh, you don't know what they did to me. No matter what they did to you, nothing will change, that that man is your father, and that woman is your mother. Nothing will change that.
Let Your Children Hear Your Du'a
And brothers and sisters, every once in a while, let your children hear you making du'a for them. Let them hear. اللَّهُمَّ ارْضَ عَنِ ابْنِي - Let him hear it. Ya Allah, be pleased with my son. And he's hearing it. Ya Allah, protect him from any evil. Ya Allah, open all the doors of khair for him. Ya Allah, give my daughter a righteous husband. Let them hear that you're making du'a, so they can duplicate it when they have their own children.
My brothers and sisters, this is a gift from Rasulullah when he told us that our du'a for our children is mustajab, answered. And we all love our children so much. So make du'a sincerely from the bottom of your heart. And you have certainty that Allah will answer my du'a.
Please come forward and fill up the main hall. And the brothers in the multipurpose hall also come to the hallway and fill it up, please. Sisters, please do the same. Look down, make sure foot to foot, shoulder to shoulder.
Opening Recitation
Allahu akbar - سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَن حَمِدَهْ
Ameen
Allahu akbar - سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَن حَمِدَهْ
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
The Most Important Dua for Our Children
We cannot leave without mentioning that what was the most dua of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam? SubhanAllah!
If Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam - this was his most dua: "Ya Allah, you are the turner of the hearts. Keep my heart steadfast on your deen."
What about my children that are bombarded by the haram social media, haram friends, haram videos, haram TVs, haram advertisement?
Please add this dua. Just because of the time, repeat after me:
Instead of قَلْبِي - قَلْب is singular. قُلُوب is plural. قُلُوب, the hearts of my... again, not only my children, I'm leaving soon - the hearts of my descendants.
Closing Prayer
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala protect all our children. May Allah protect you all.
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah
