A Du'a of Longing… To See Allah and Be With Him
Every day of your life, you should look forward and you should hope and be excited to meet Allah. If you know Allah, you should be excited to meet Him. I want you to listen to these words because these are the words of the Messenger ﷺ.
The Du'a
(Sunan al-Nasa'i, Hadith 1305; also recorded in Musnad Ahmad)
The Meaning, Line by Line
اللَّهُمَّ بِعِلْمِكَ الغَيْبَ — Oh Allah, you know the unseen.
وَقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَى الخَلْقِ — And you have control over all creation.
أَحْيِنِي مَا عَلِمْتَ الحَيَاةَ خَيْرًا لِي — Oh Allah, keep me alive if you know being alive is good for me.
وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا عَلِمْتَ الوَفَاةَ خَيْرًا لِي — Make me pass if dying is better for me.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَشْيَتَكَ فِي الغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ — Oh Allah, I ask you to make me fear you in the seen and the unseen.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ كَلِمَةَ الحَقِّ فِي الرِّضَا وَالغَضَبِ — Oh Allah, let me speak the truth when I am pleased and when I am angry.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ القَصْدَ فِي الفَقْرِ وَالغِنَى — And I ask you to make me balanced when I am rich and when I am poor.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ نَعِيمًا لَا يَنْفَدُ — And I ask you for pleasure which never ends — i.e. paradise.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ قُرَّةَ عَيْنٍ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ — And give me the coolness of my eyes in a way that never ends.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ الرِّضَا بَعْدَ القَضَاءِ — And I ask you for your pleasure after my judgment.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ بَرْدَ العَيْشِ بَعْدَ المَوْتِ — And I ask you for the coolness of life after death.
وَأَسْأَلُكَ لَذَّةَ النَّظَرِ إِلَى وَجْهِكَ — And I ask you for the sweetness of being able to see you.
وَالشَّوْقَ إِلَى لِقَائِكَ — And I ask you to grant me the desire and the yearning to meet you.
فِي غَيْرِ ضَرَّاءَ مُضِرَّةٍ — In a time where there is no harm.
وَلَا فِتْنَةٍ مُضِلَّةٍ — And there is no test.
اللَّهُمَّ زَيِّنَّا بِزِينَةِ الإِيمَانِ — O Allah, beautify us with the beauty of iman.
وَاجْعَلْنَا هُدَاةً مُهْتَدِينَ — And make us of those who guide and who are guided.
The Heart of This Du'a
The main sentence in this du'a that I want you to pay attention to. And what a beautiful du'a from a messenger who knows his Lord:
O Allah, grant me the sweetness of seeing you. And grant me the yearning, the desire, the hope to meet you.
