Al-Wadud: A Love Not for All

When Allah names himself Al-Wadud, this is not a love for everybody. Now, this is something to break some people's hearts. Allah's name Al-Wadud is referring to a very special kind of love for a very special kind of people.

Remember that. And this is where we differ with the Christians of the modern day. Modern Christian theology says, God loves everyone. Jesus died for our sins — and all of these lies. And our version of Allah's love is not that Allah loves everyone. Allah explicitly says to us, some people He does not love.

Allah does not love some people. Allah does not love people who are arrogant, who are oppressive, treacherous, liars, cheaters. Allah does not love such people.

Levels of Allah's Love

There are levels of love Allah has for His slaves. And then there is the highest level. And those Allah loves the highest of all — He uses His name Al-Wadud. This is why Al-Wadud, this name of Allah, the Loving — it only came in the Quran twice.

Allah is very loving — how come it only came twice? Because Allah's name Ar-Raheem encompasses some love, right? Every name of Allah — Ar-Raheem, the mercy of Allah — encompasses a meaning of love. But Al-Wadud is for very exclusive people.

Who Deserves Al-Wadud?

Who are the people who deserve this name Al-Wadud? And what is it that will make us people who deserve this special love of Allah? This is what we are going to explore in today's lesson.
