Are We Tarnishing the Image of Islam?

Every day you wake up and you go to work in the morning and you may work with people who don't share the same faith as you. Do our dealings reflect our religion or have we created the reputation that we are the biggest slackers, we're the least reliable, we're the latest to meetings, we're the last person to socialize, we're the most closed off, don't talk to me or look at me, I just want to talk to my own. What impression have we given to those around us at work?

Salah at work becomes a struggle for many people but Salah at work is one of the greatest forms of Salah in a public place.

Show Islam Before You Speak It

The principle we learn from the history of Islam and from the story of Yusuf (alayhi al-salam) is that before you speak you have to show Islam through your limbs, through your acts and most of all through the worship that will inspire people to ask why on earth are you doing this — explain to me.

Oftentimes we try to hide our faith at work because we're embarrassed or shy or we think it won't allow us to progress. But if you gently and slowly — without arrogance, without pride, without being too much in your face — if you live it at work, oftentimes it leads to very interesting conversations. Very curious people might ask you a few questions and you end up in a conversation. This is exactly what you want to happen.

Lost Opportunities — Ramadan as an Example

Ramadan comes every year — people around you are asking: what is Ramadan? Why do you guys fast? What does it mean? And these are lost opportunities that we don't use to introduce them.
