Do You Have The Desire To Meet Allah?

There are so many people we desire to meet in this worldly life. I remember as a child, the first time my father told me Mishary Al-Afasi is coming to this country to lead Salah. Oh Allah.

For four weeks I wanted to pray behind him. Four weeks. When is he coming? Next month. When is he coming? Next month. When is he coming? I just want to see him. I'm never going to have a conversation with him. I just want to pray. I just want to see him from far because I love his recitation.

We all have people like that in our lives. Sheikh Abdul Rashid Ali Sufi came. People just, they just want to see him. They just want his autograph. They just want him to just touch their shoulder. Then they're going to hang this thobe and never wear it again.

We look forward to the meeting with certain people — celebrities, special people, people we love, people we love for the sake of Allah. We have a shawq. We have a yearning, a desire to meet them.

What a Tragedy

What a tragedy. What a disaster. What a sadness.

We have a yearning to meet every human being in this world but we don't have that yearning to meet our Creator.

The Du'a of the Prophet ﷺ

And so the Prophet ﷺ asks Allah — make me want to meet You. A shawq. Give me the shawq, the desire to see You. I want to see You. Give me that desire. Don't let that flame die in my heart.

What Will Get You Through

There will come moments — those moments in your life, those spiritual moments. In the belly of the whale, the darkness of the cave, the darkness of the prison, the pain of illness, the loss of a loved one, the difficulty of people. These moments will come in your life.

And what will get you through to the other side is a shawq ilā liqā'illāh — شَوْقٌ إِلَى لِقَاءِ اللهِ — is that you want to meet Allah. So you can walk through fire if you need to. Because you know on the other side, Allah is there and He is going to grant you better than you ever expect.
