Doing The Same Sin Over And Over Again After Repenting
He said if a person feels like they're committing a sin and they're making Tawbah and they're going back again, they're making Tawbah and they're going back again, they're stuck in a vicious cycle, what would you advise them?
This is not a vicious cycle brother, this is a virtuous cycle. I know it feels like you're stuck in the deed, you feel stuck — but you have to almost see it like Tawbah is a cycle. Every time you make Tawbah it gets slightly better until the circles are slowly moving upwards.
It might take 10, 15, 20 cycles until you rid yourself of that deed. But the key thing — every time you make the sin, that firm resolve: "This is a disgusting thing, I have to stop, I'm not going to go back to this and I will stop" — that has to be there. You fall into it the next day, fine.
In that moment, that commitment has to be there 100% solid. If that commitment is there, you are bound to improve — you're bound to improve. And it's not that you should not sin, it's every time you fall you have to get back up.
It's exhausting, but it is the path to change. You trust the process. Every time you sincerely follow the steps of Tawbah — regret, resolve, reset, redeem — you follow these steps, you are bound to change.
And make Du'a. Allah is merciful, and you may be stuck for six months, for a year — but you won't be stuck forever. Allah is merciful. So trust that process. It's a virtuous cycle and it takes a lot of stamina, and it takes a lot of Iman to get through it — but keep going, إن شاء الله, and you'll get through it.
