Eid Al-Adha: A Story Of Faith And Mercy
Ibrahim (A.S.) waits for a child for nearly 100 years, a century. Imagine, after all that waiting, the child comes. Not that just the child came, the child grows up in front of his eyes, feeds the child, plays with the child, builds the Ka'bah with his own hands with the child.
The child is growing up and the child loves Allah. The child is pious and righteous. And then, just as he sees the fruit of all his labour, Allah says, well, it's time to go for this child.
Can you imagine? Can you imagine the feeling of the Prophet of Allah, Ibrahim (A.S.)? We would be crushed under the pressure of such a commandment from Allah. But Ibrahim (A.S.) — this is the reason he is the friend of Allah, Khalilur Rahman. It's because he does not think twice.
Immediately:
When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I submit to the Lord of all the worlds."
This is the nature of Ibrahim. This is why Ibrahim is described in the Qur'an:
This man was equivalent to a nation. A nation of people in one man.
What made this man equivalent to a million people? His willingness to sacrifice for Allah's sake. This is the key lesson from these 10 days, other than fasting and dhikr of Allah and takbeer and remembering the story of Ibrahim.
The Call to Sacrifice
All of us have to practice one very important action. We have to think of something to sacrifice. And the more beloved the thing to you, the more beloved the sacrifice for the sake of Allah.
Sacrifice your screen time. Deactivate your social media. Sacrifice your smartphone for the sake of Allah.
Sacrifice your time, your evenings for the sake of Allah. It doesn't have to be money. Sacrifice — give time to your children. Give time to your family members. Sacrifice your pride, your status, your prestige for the sake of Allah.
Choose something that you've ended up revering and worshipping, and sacrifice it for Allah's sake. And see the level of iman that you achieve. This is what we have to try and do in these 10 days.
