Sometimes we react. Now, did the Sahaba react? Absolutely. When the Prophet ﷺ came and told Aisha that people have been saying that she did something with that man — and at this time the Prophet ﷺ doesn't know the answer — Aisha turns her back to him and looks away, and she tells her mum, "You respond to him, I'm not talking to him."
What's this emotional response? And human beings are emotional creatures. So they had emotional responses. They got into fights, they got into arguments. Aisha gets jealous of one of the Prophet's wives and she breaks the dish that she sends her food in — she breaks the dish.
So they were humans. They had emotional responses. People caused them pain. Allah always asks them — even though you are human and you feel the pain, and you don't want to see them again, and you don't want to talk to them again — just try. Try to forgive. Try to deal with them in a beautiful manner.
So that's the kind of spirit of the Quran when it comes to dealing with people.
