How To Handle Repeated Hurt
There are people who are going to torment you in life, torture you in life, be horrible to you in life, etc. — and you won't be able to do anything about it. And you'll forgive them, and they'll come again, and you'll forgive them, and they'll do it again. Forgiveness and being a good person does not mean you open yourself to someone repeatedly abusing you.
You shouldn't be somebody who is easy to steamroll. The Prophet ﷺ says:
"A believer is not stung from the same hole twice."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6133; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2998)
So there is a level of protecting yourself, protecting your dignity, creating distance, telling people, "This is not something I appreciate," etc.
There is an element of that which is part of the Sharia — of maintaining relationships, but also letting people know where they stand, in the most polite and respectful way, drawing lines where it is needed to draw lines. However, the spirit of the Sharia is always towards forgiveness and moving on.
