If You Are Drowning In The Sea Of Sin

There are people who they are mired in some kind of sin — due to their upbringing, due to their company, due to whatever it is. And in the early days they felt some kind of guilt, but the guilt is painful. So they slowly push it away. They push it away. They push it away. Until they almost get to a point where they feel a bit heartless. They're able to do the thing and not feel anything. They desensitize themselves because the feeling of guilt was too painful.

Once you get to that point where you don't really feel anything anymore — underlying all of that is a fear that Allah's not going to forgive me. So rather than confronting my guilt, confronting my sin, I'll just continue. It looks like you don't care. But actually, deep down, that feeling of guilt really hurts you and pains you, and you think there's no hope. So you just push it away and you bury it deeper.

Never Lose Hope in the Mercy of Allah

Allah says in the Quran: O my slaves who have transgressed against themselves, never lose hope in the mercy of Allah.

In a beautiful Hadith Qudsi, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala conveyed to a prophet:

(Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Hadith 3540)

O child of Adam — Yabna Adam — if your sins reach the skies, then you came to me sincerely asking forgiveness, I would have forgiven you and I wouldn't care what you did.

O son of Adam, you're gonna make mistakes night and day — and I forgive sins. So you better come ask me, and I'll just forgive you.
