The Night Prayer of the Prophet ﷺ

One day, Bilal رضي الله عنه enters the house of the Prophet ﷺ before Fajr, and he finds him reciting the Qur'an in the night prayer. He finds that he's crying so much, it's like someone poured a bucket of water on his head. And after the Salah, he asks him, O Prophet of Allah, what led you to cry so much? I've never seen you sob this much before.

The Prophet ﷺ says to him, do you know Bilal, what Allah revealed to me tonight? Allah revealed to me verses from Surah Ali 'Imran:

إِنَّ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱخْتِلَٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ

"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of the night and the day, there are signs for people of understanding."

These verses, the Prophet ﷺ did not race through them. He spent time with them. He contemplated them until they moved him to tears, until the tears took over his body.

This moment is recorded until the end of time. It will be a timeless memory that it is not about how many pages you recited, but it is about how many tears you shed.

It is not about how quickly you finished, but it is about how deeply the impact was felt of those verses.
