No SmartPhones Under The Age Of 16

No Smartphones Under the Age of 16

I don't believe that someone under the age of 16 should be having a smartphone. If they're using a digital device it should be a desktop or a laptop in a public space in the house.

Why? They're going through the most raging hormones they've gone through in their life. They're in training — they've not developed their ability to master those desires yet. It's new, and anything when it's new it's hard to control. That's not the period to give them unrestricted access to the world wide web.

It's like someone just telling you to drive and you're giving them a Ferrari and saying go wherever you want. And then there's a fatality, there's a car accident, and you say, "Oh no, you actually planned that?" He was on training wheels and you gave him the keys to a Ferrari. What did you expect — that he was going to pass?

The Default Is Not Smartphone Ownership

That's more a parental thing — who said that the default is that somebody should own a smartphone? It's not the default. And I'm being generous enough to say under 16 shouldn't be having one, because between 13 and 16, 17 — that's the age where they're in training.

They're learning what desires are. They're experiencing attraction for the first time, and lust for the first time, and you want to give them a device which allows them free reign to act on it in any number of ways? It makes no sense.
