We're Distracted!
Please, just one more funny story. I'm praying Salah. السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Brother next to me says, brother, do you love Jannah? Yes, I love Jannah. Of course, yes, what's going on? Then why didn't you put your foot right next to my foot? The brother was stepping on my foot the whole Salah. He's trying to crush my pinky toe.
Allah ya'alam, I have a football match afterwards. I can't afford to lose the pinky toe. It's very important to me.
I said, brother, one second, tell me something. Did the Prophet ﷺ command you to crush my pinky toe? He didn't command you. The most important essence of Salah is focus and khushu'.
You're destroying your khushu' and my khushu' by fighting for the pinky toe. Khalas, you put your foot next to my foot and we'll be happy. And you can hold hands, be happy and be best brothers.
But you're focusing on this small thing and you're missing the big thing. How could you do that? And after Salah, you're quizzing me about whether I want to go to Jannah. Come on, man, be strategic.
The Real Problem: Fighting Over Small Things
And so this is the thing that sometimes as Muslims we suffer from — is that we fight about the small things that are differed upon. And the big things we all agree on, we leave those alone. We all agree on Riba. We all agree on cleanliness. We all agree on Tawheed. We all agree on these major things.
We're not going to work together to fight for them, to advocate for them, or to stop people from doing them. Why? We're too busy fighting about 8 or 20 rak'ahs. We're too busy fighting about what day Ramadan began, what day Ramadan ended. We're too busy fighting about this little khilafi masa'la, that khilafi masa'la which scholars debated about for 1400 years.
And while we are debating and fighting, the ship is sinking.
