Will You Be a Somebody?

Who is here ready to step up for the sake of Allah? There is a lot of negative ideas about Muslims circulating in the media — that Muslims are responsible for X and Y and Z — but who amongst us is going to do something about it? Who is going to change the opinion and be kind neighbors and spread the message of Islam and build the institutions for the future of Islam to flourish?

And what we have to realize is that it is not about the number of people willing to serve. It is always going to be a few people that make the biggest difference.

And I'll just share one story to end this khutbah. The Prophet ﷺ — when he was in Mecca, when he met the leaders of Medina — he said to them: "I'm going to send you one man to teach Islam to the people of Medina." He sent one man, and in one year this man converted the entire population to Islam. One year. One man.

This was none other than Mus'ab ibn 'Umayr رضي الله عنه.

"Somebody else will build the masajid. Somebody else will build the schools. Somebody else will change the perception of Muslims — not me, somebody else."

And this is exactly the poisonous mindset that kills us on the inside.
