You Have To Do This Before Ramadan Arrives
How horrible it is for those people whose hearts have died, they are numb to the remembrance of Allah. Those people are completely lost.
We are on the brink, on the footsteps of Ramadan.
And as many of us plan what are we going to do in Ramadan and we think about Eid, and we think about fasting, we have to realize something — Ramadan is like rain, but rain cannot produce agriculture everywhere, the soil has to be moist. And if the heart is dead, and nothing moves it, and if it's lazy for worship, then the rain of Ramadan and the rain of the Qur'an will have no effect. It will hit a brick wall, a dead surface, and we will find ourselves living an empty Ramadan.
The preparation for Ramadan requires first to perform CPR on this dead heart, to revive the heart. But what will revive the heart? In the very verse I just recited, in the very next verse, Allah describes the cure.
Allah sent down the most beautiful speech — a book whose verses are similar in nature, in pairs. When those who fear Allah hear these words, their skin trembles. And then they soften, the heart softens to the remembrance of Allah.
There is only one material that can melt the most hardest, the most coldest of hearts. That is the remembrance of Allah. That is the Qur'an.
The Qur'an has a way with the heart. It has a way of softening the heart, a way of easing the heart, a way of letting through the stream of tears. You must engage the Qur'an before Ramadan.
You must engage it with the intention of softening the heart.
