Ramadan: The Month of Relief — Episode 7 | The Conclusion of Ramadan | Final Episode
Speaker: Mufti Abdul Wahab Waheed
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Dear brothers and sisters, welcome back to the last episode of our short series in the month of Ramadan, known as Ramadan, the month of relief, Ramadan, the month of victory and peace. In this last episode, we will be discussing a specific concept that we should bring into our lives as Ramadan is bidding us farewell.
It's All About How You Finish
Allah speaks about a specific concept in the Holy Quran — and that concept is that a person's life is compared and a person's life is calculated based upon how he finished his life, and how he or she left the world.
It's all about what we did at the finish line. It's all about what happened at the end. It's all about how we left the world.
That we will leave the world as we live, and we will be raised on the Day of Judgment as we passed away. So it's about how we leave the world.
Meeting Our Deadlines Before Ramadan Departs
The end of the year is the time of the year where we're catching up on tasks and different types of deadlines that we have to meet. And as December closes upon us, we have to catch up on our deadlines, make sure our exams are done so we can enjoy the vacation of the winter holidays. Similarly, dear brothers and sisters, as Ramadan is bidding us farewell, and as Ramadan is leaving us — this beautiful guest, this beautiful precious gift that Allah has given us — as it's leaving us, we also have to reach some deadlines.
And we also have to make sure we've completed our tasks and we've completed all of our exams. Because the celebration of the Day of Eid and the celebration that comes after the month of Ramadan is for that person who has completed all of their deadlines. And one of the deadlines as we leave this month is to find relief, is to find victory, and is to find some type of conquest within ourselves and within our own nafs.
And hence we have this entire series — to encourage us to find that motivation, to find that encouragement, to find that hope, to find that source of continuous and perpetual pushing and motivation that we can make it happen, we can get it through. And Alhamdulillah, I hope that every single one of us were able to bring new habits and leave negative habits.
Ramadan Is Still a Month of Relief — Even Through Difficulty
And we'll end by saying — many of us went through difficulties in the month of Ramadan. Many people have texted me, called, personally told me, or told many of you, and many of you probably have experienced it yourself, that a beloved has passed away in the month of Ramadan. Someone has gotten sick in the month of Ramadan. So and so thing has happened to me in the month of Ramadan. Some of the most difficult and tragic events personally in my life have taken place for me in the month of Ramadan, at a personal level.
That does not mean in any way, shape, or form that Ramadan is not a source of relief. Regardless of how much difficulty came our way in the month of Ramadan at a personal level, it does not take away from the beauty of the month.
So let us not lose hope in the month of Ramadan. Let us not lose that motivation in these last few nights — lest we remember that in the month of Ramadan, some of the most beloved people in this world left the world and went to the akhirah. And that was their source of relief.
The Daughters of the Prophet in Ramadan
Two of the daughters of the Prophet passed away in the month of Ramadan. Ruqayyah رضي الله عنها passed away in the month of Ramadan — and while the Prophet was coming back from Badr with a victory, in the happiness of Badr, he got back and Uthman رضي الله عنه was given the news of the death of his beloved wife. This was the life of the Prophet. One victory led to another defeat. One defeat led to another victory. A constant circle of life.
And the second daughter that passed away in the month of Ramadan — the apple of the eye of the Prophet — was Fatimah رضي الله عنها, who passed away on the third of the month of Ramadan.
So for those who lost loved ones, let us know that passing away in the month of Ramadan is one of the biggest gifts that one can receive. Passing away in the month of Ramadan, Allah protects that individual from the punishment of the grave. Passing away on Friday, Allah protects one from the punishment of the grave — as narrated by Amr ibn al-'As رضي الله عنه.
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1074 — narrated by 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, and also reported from 'Amr ibn al-'As)
Finding Relief in Every Hardship
This is also a blessing — finding a blessing in every hardship. The entire life is a continuous form of difficulties for people. But if we can find that source of relief, if we can find that string of hope for ourselves, our families, our community, we will always be positive people. And whatever we have inside will echo off and reflect upon people. So if we're positive, we will give positive vibes. And if we're happy, we will give happy vibes. And if we're depressed, we will give depressed vibes. And if we are sinners, we will make other people around us also feel the weight of that sin.
So may Allah protect us from being those individuals, and rather make us people that can give a positive vibe to everyone else.
Our Deadlines for These Last Nights
So the last thing that I wanted to mention in this series as it comes to an end — let us remember that as this month comes to an end, we should also have met all of our deadlines.
Our deadlines should have been:
- Number one: We were forgiven by Allah.
- Number two: We forgave people. That's very important for us in the last few nights. As I mentioned in the last video — مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمْ لَا يُرْحَمْ — one that cannot forgive cannot be forgiven.
- Number three: We brought new good habits into our life and abandoned and forsaken those bad habits that had burdened us and were carrying us down for years in the past.
Let them go. Youngsters should listen to this and say to themselves — we don't know if next year in the month of Ramadan we will be alive. So in these last few nights, let's get it done.
It's like the NBA — right now the NBA playoffs are going on, the NBA Finals. You put everything on the line. You only have four games left, you put everything on the line. We only have three, four days left. Let's put whatever we have within us on the line — our ibadah, our salat, our tears, our crying, our forgiveness — so we can leave the month happy and we can celebrate on the Day of Eid with no guilt in our heart that we had not done enough.
And that is the biggest regret one can have in his life — that I had an opportunity and I lost it.
Closing Du'a
May Allah make us amongst those that take advantage of these last few nights. Make us amongst those that are the saajidun, the raki'un — people that are crying in front of Allah and are forgiven in the eyes of Allah — and that we take whatever difficulties came to us in the month of Ramadan as a sense of relief, and that is also a victory for us, and that is also a conquest for us.
Whoever passed away — may Allah forgive them, give them the highest status in Jannah. Whoever felt sick in the month of Ramadan — may Allah make that a source of their sins being forgiven even more and give them shifa kamilah. Whoever has gone through difficulties in the month of Ramadan — may Allah make that difficulty a source of their forgiveness and elevation in the ranks on the Day of Judgment.
May Allah bless all of you. It was an honor going through these videos in this series and I hope, as much as I enjoyed it, everyone else enjoyed it as well. May Allah bless all of you.
