The Eid Prayer and Celebration

After that, then I will recite Al-Fatiha and I will recite a surah. Following that, the first rak'ah, then the second rak'ah, there will be five takbirat after standing back up. Five takbirat.

After that, I will recite Surah Al-Fatiha, and then recite a surah, insha'Allah. And then we will finish the salah, and then we will immediately jump into the Eid khutbah. And insha'Allah, as per the sunnah of Rasul ﷺ, we will try to make it short and sweet.

Why We Praise Allah on Eid

My dear respected brothers, sisters, elders, why is it that we praise Allah so much on the day of Eid? Why is it constantly we're saying اللهُ أَكْبَر? Because Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest. Allah is greater than anything, Allah is greater than anyone, Allah is above everything.

هُوَ الْجَبَّارُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ مَلِكُ الْمُلُوكِ. The king of kings, the sustainer, the maker, the breaker, the giver and the taker, the one who gives life and gives death, but life and death do not affect him. The one who gives cover and shade for the weak, the poor and the needy, but none of this affects him.

All glory and praise be to Allah. The one, الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِهَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْلَا أَنْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ. The one who guided us to Islam, the one who guided us to be here today.

Alhamdulillah, and if it wasn't for his guidance, for his tawfiq for us to be here, wallahi none of us would be here. We praise Allah and we celebrate this blessed day because Allah blessed us. Allah allowed us to witness another Ramadan and I ask Allah to accept from all of us.

The Month of Mercy and Guidance

We ask Allah to forgive our shortcomings in the month of Ramadan. Brothers and sisters, the reason why we praise Allah so much is we're saying, Ya Allah, all praise be to you, you guided us. Ya Allah, all praise be to you, we just finished the month of mercy, the month of fasting.

You gave us the tawfiq, Ya Allah, to fear you more, to be more conscious of you. Ya Allah, you saw how I was all the 11 months before, but Ya Allah, you called me to your house of Allah every single day in this month. Ya Allah, you saw how I was with your words, your Quran in the 11 months before, but Ya Allah, in this month you chose me and allowed me to recite more, allowed me to read more, allowed me to ponder and reflect more.

So Ya Allah, all praise is to you. All praise is to you. Allah guided us and we ask Allah to keep us steadfast till the day we meet Him. Ameen, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

In this blessed time, this is the time to be joyous, to be happy. Joyous and happy that you feared Allah enough to fast for the whole month. You feared Allah enough, you loved Allah enough to be conscious of Allah, to try your best to strive to His forgiveness, to His mercy. And we ask Allah to make us from those who left Ramadan completely forgiven, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Even if we're not deserving of His mercy, we ask Allah to shower us in His mercy, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

Maintaining Taqwa After Ramadan

Brothers and sisters, the sunnah of the Eid is to make the khutbah short, and I will make it very short insha'Allah. As I know we all want to be with our families, we all want to enjoy this blessed day. But insha'Allah:

The reminder benefits the believers.

Alhamdulillah, the month of taqwa just finished. And now we pause and we reflect, see what our levels of taqwa is. We charge our battery for one month, this battery should be charged insha'Allah for the next 11 months.

And we ask Allah to keep us steadfast, Ameen. And in the ayah, in the miracle of Allah, that Allah gives us tawfiq to have God consciousness in one month, Allah insha'Allah will give us tawfiq to have God consciousness and taqwa throughout the other 11 months. Allah will keep us steadfast insha'Allah, and keep us from the people of the masajid, Ya Rabb, Ameen.

The Essence of Eid Celebration

And on this blessed day of Eid, we celebrate because Allah told us to celebrate. We celebrate because Allah honored us just as Allah told us to stop eating and drinking. Fear Allah.

Now in the same token, on the same side, the taqwa of Allah is to celebrate today. The taqwa of Allah is to make sure we do not fast today. It's to make sure we spread the ties of kinship, we spread the salam, we spread the peace and the happiness today. And may Allah give us tawfiq to do so.

A sign of taqwa, a sign of piety in the heart, is that on days like this, the signs, the miracles of Allah, that we praise Allah, that we have a good day, that Allah told us to have a beautiful day, have an amazing day, that we listen to Allah, and we have an amazing day. We be kind to one another, we spread the salam to one another, we look out for one another, we invite those around us.

Verily the believers are brothers, the believers are brothers and sisters. So when you look left and right after we finish the khutbah, make sure that all you see is your brothers and all you see is your sisters. Make sure that even if you don't know each other's name, you don't speak the same language, you smile at one another.

(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1956)

"Your smile in the face of your brother is charity." You hug one another, you give salam. You may even invite someone over. This is the beauty of this deen. This is the beauty of Islam. And may Allah give us tawfiq to do what we hear, ya rabbil alameen.

Staying Connected to Allah

And I end with this before we go to the second part of the khutbah. Brothers, the Lord of Ramadan, is the same Rabb of every single other month. The Allah that we worship day and night in Ramadan, is the same Allah in every single other month. Don't let the shaitan get you and your family. It's a blessed joyous day.

Shaitan has been on vacation for 30 days. Today he's coming back for vengeance. I ask you by Allah, do not let him take you away from the house of Allah. I ask you by Allah, do not let him take you and I away from the remembrance of Allah. By Allah, do not let the shaitan take us away from the Quran, the words of Allah and leave them on the shelves. May Allah keep us steadfast to the day we meet him, ya rabbil alameen.

I say this before I ask Allah's forgiveness for you, so ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ.

Du'a and Practical Guidance

اللهُ أَكْبَر، اللهُ أَكْبَر، اللهُ أَكْبَر، اللهُ أَكْبَر، اللهُ أَكْبَر، اللهُ أَكْبَر، اللهُ أَكْبَر. All praise and glory is to you, ya rabbil alameen. Ya Allah, the one who has gathered us on this blessed day, this joyous day of Eid.

Ya Allah, allow us to witness many, many more Ramadans, ya rabbil alameen. Ya Allah, on this joyous day of Eid, ya Allah, please fill our homes with mercy and love, ya Rabb. Ya Allah, for those who have passed away, ya rabbil alameen, have mercy on them, ya rabbil alameen. Ya Allah, keep us steadfast until we meet you, ya rabbil alameen.

Eid Reminders and Guidance

A few reminders for Eid, because many people might not know, and this might be some people's first Eid. On Eid, you call the ties of kinship, you establish the ties of kinship, call your uncle, your auntie, your cousin, your brother, your sister, your mother, your father, your grandson, your granddaughter, you call every single person in your family, no matter if they cut you off, no matter if they slandered you, no matter if they hurt you, because this is from the taqwa of Allah.

We spent a whole month trying to build a relationship between us and Allah. Now let's put it into practice. In this blessed day of Eid, you might be someone who's normally grumpy. Please, I beg you, turn that frown upside down. This is the day to smile, wallahi al-azim. This is the day to smile. This is the day to love one another.

The husband, love his wife, be gentle with your wife, be patient with her. The wife, please, be patient with the husband, be loving to the husband. Show the mawaddah, show the mercy, show the caringness, the siblings with each other, the parents with the children.

Today is a day of fun, of joy, of celebration, as Allah commanded us to do so. Make sure the kids especially feel the Eid. All the kids in the crowd, you can tell your dad to blame me, you deserve Eidi today. By the end of today, your dad or mom, both of them, deserve to give you Eidi. All the kids! And also, all fathers, prescription, you have to, within these next three days, take your whole family out to dinner. Khalas, prescribed.

May Allah bless you guys insha'Allah. And insha'Allah, give salam to everyone. You know, you don't know, it doesn't matter. We are all brothers and sisters. And you don't know what other people are going through. Wallahi, you don't know.

Many of us go through struggles and trials and tribulations and difficulties. Let this day where we can all forget those trials and tribulations. Let this day where even if we don't have family, even if we don't have friends, let us all be each other's family. Let us all be each other's brothers and sisters. When we get up, after we finish, we say salam to every single person you see. Give a smile. How are you? How's everything? Invite someone over. It doesn't matter. Today is the day of Eid. Today is the day of joy and celebration.

Six Days of Shawwal and Zakat al-Fitr

And one last thing insha'Allah. As you know the one, the one who fasted the whole month of Ramadan and follows it with six days of shawwal. The six days of shawwal. Allah will write for him as if he fasted a whole year. So insha'Allah, today is the day of Eid. Of course we can't fast. But after this you have about 29-ish days. Make sure, make sure, make sure, I beg you. This is easy hasanat. Easy mercy from Allah. Make sure you fast the six days.

And also last thing, zakat al-fitr. It's already very late. Zakat al-fitr should have already been paid. If you have not paid zakat al-fitr, this is for every head of the household. If you are by yourself or if you are head of the household. You're the head of the household, you do it for every person in your family. It's $12 or $15 depending on your community. Here it's $12. If you are the head of the household, this is a fard, you must pay it. So on your way out, if you have not paid zakat al-fitr, make sure you pay $12 per person in your household, in your family.

Final Du'a

I ask Allah to forgive us for our shortcomings in Ramadan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. I ask Allah to allow us to witness many more Ramadan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. I ask Allah to make us from those who are among the muttaqeen, the ones who have God consciousness, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, make this blessed day of Eid a happy day for all of us, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, make this blessed day a day of mercy in all our homes, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

Ya Allah, every husband and wife put mercy between them, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, every brother and sister put love and mercy between them, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, every father and son and mother and daughter put mercy and love between them, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

Ya Allah, remove our homes from the shaitan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Protect our homes from the shaitan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Protect our families from the shaitan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, make us from the people of Quran, not just in Ramadan but outside of Ramadan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, make our hearts tied to the masjid inside of Ramadan and especially outside of Ramadan, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, do not take us away except if you're pleased with us, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

Ya Rabbil Alameen, forgive us for all our shortcomings, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, on this blessed day, Ya Rabb, our people, our brothers, our sisters across the world, Ya Rabbil Alameen, help them have a beautiful day, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Ya Rabb, help them have an amazing day, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, our brothers and sisters in Sudan, Ya Rabbil Alameen, help them have an amazing day, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Allah, our brothers and sisters in Yemen, in Afghanistan, in Burma, in Rohingya, in Kashmir, in India, in Pakistan, Ya Rabb, across the whole world, every country that is known and unknown, the Muslims that are known and unknown, all the oppressed Muslims, Ya Rabb, alleviate their oppressions, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Rabbil Alameen, give them victory, Ya Rabbil Alameen. Ya Rabb, give them happiness in the dunya, and especially in the akhirah, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

And Ya Allah, reunite all of us with Rasul Allah, ﷺ, in Jannatul Naeem, Ya Rabbil Alameen. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِينَ.
