Just sit, everybody sit. We're going to start in here. On behalf of the EPIC Board, our religious leadership, and all the staff, we want to wish each and every one of you a very happy Eid Mubarak.

May you all have a great day inshallah and jazakallahu khairan for all your cooperation. Inshallah, if on your way out you can just donate something for operations - the masjid runs on your donations and in recent times we have to heighten our security and things like that. So whatever you can donate on your way out will help inshallah.

We will inshallah start our salah in five minutes so we can continue the takbirat for a few more minutes. Jazakallahu khairan.

Eid Salah Instructions

A reminder: in the first rak'ah after the takbirat al-ihram will be seven takbirat - seven takbirat. If we increase on accident or decrease, it's khayr inshallah, the salah is still accepted. In the second rak'ah, it will be five takbirat after when we get back up - five takbirat again. After the two rak'ahs, we'll do taslim on both sides and then we'll have a very short Eid khutbah inshallah ta'ala.

If I can ask everyone to please stand up, fill in all the gaps. We have a packed house, so inshallah make room for others. If you need to squeeze a little bit, squeeze inshallah. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless everyone. Try to squeeze in wherever you can. If you want the kids, maybe you can make the first row so you can make the first row inshallah.

Khutbah: Following the Example of Ibrahim (AS)

We praise Allah عز وجل, for Allah is greater than everything. Allah is greater than anyone. Allah is the creator of the heavens and the earth سبحانه وتعالى.

All praise and thanks belongs to Allah عز وجل who blessed us with witnessing the best days of the year. All praise to Allah عز وجل who allowed us to witness the day of Arafah. All praise to Allah عز وجل who allowed you and I to be in his house on this blessed day, praising him with takbirat throughout the day and throughout the next three days we will be praising with takbirat after every single salah.

All praise to Allah عز وجل who made you and I from Ummah Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, and الحمد لله that he is the one that guided us to this path. For it had not been by Allah سبحانه وتعالى fadl and mercy, none of us would be here.

Akhwani wa akhwati fi Allah, Allah allowed us to witness the best days ever and we are still breathing in these best days ever. But inshallah, a very short and brief reminder before we go back to our families and inshallah have a beautiful, joyous, blessed day.

The Example of Ibrahim (AS)

خليل الرحمن, خليل الله Ibrahim عليه السلام - it is because of him عليه السلام that we have this blessed day. It is because of his life and his sacrifices that he is honored by Allah. He is known as the friend of Allah عز وجل, so much so that every time we send peace and blessings upon Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم in our salah, we accompany it right after with Ibrahim عليه السلام. May Allah's peace and blessings be upon both Muhammad and his family and Ibrahim عليه السلام and his family عليهم الصلاة والسلام أجمعين.

Akhwani fi Allah, a very quick summary and recap of Ibrahim عليه السلام: from the moment he was a child عليه الصلاة والسلام, he was tested in different ways. He was the one and only true caller to tawheed, to Allah عز وجل, so much so that his own father would be the one in charge of making the statues and the idols for the pagans. In a land of shirk and polytheism, he was the one who called his father and his people to لا إله إلا الله in a time when a young boy knew that it made no sense to worship stones and statues and wood.

He was tested by his own father so much so that they grabbed him and they threw him into the fire. And when he was on his way to the fire, we know Jibreel عليه السلام was sent down and he said, "Ya Ibrahim, do you need any help?" He said, "From you, no, but only from Allah عز وجل."

Ibrahim عليه السلام was tested throughout his life. From as he grew up to be a young man, he was tested with Nimrud, and we know the story. But just to give a brief recap: he said, "I give life and I give death," and then Ibrahim challenged him to bring the sun from the west to the east when Allah brings it from the east to the west.

And later on, Ibrahim عليه السلام, as he's going on throughout his life, he's tested by Firaun when Firaun wanted to take his wife Sara. Ibrahim عليه السلام - his whole life was trials and tribulations and sacrifices by Allah عز وجل.

Just like him - and there's a reason why none of us are tested like him - because Allah عز وجل only tests those whom he loves the most with the severest of tests. That's why the prophets and messengers عليهم الصلاة والسلام were tested with the most severe of tests. And I ask Allah to unite us with them in Jannah al-Firdous.

The Greatest Test

And after a long life, in his old age - and fathers and mothers who don't have kids they might be able to relate to this, and for those who do not have kids, may Allah bless them with righteous offspring, and for those who still do not have kids or are not able to have kids, may Allah grant you a better reward in Jannah al-Firdous - after a long life and Ibrahim عليه السلام could not have kids until finally from Hajar, Ismail عليه السلام was born.

And right after that, shortly, Allah عز وجل tested him again when he went to Makkah. And as soon as they arrived, Allah commanded Ibrahim: "Leave your boy - the one who you were dying, you were waiting to have - leave them and go." And what did Ibrahim عليه السلام do? Did he question Allah? He said, "Ya Allah, why? Ya Allah, I've already called to my whole life. Ya Allah, I've already been patient." Did he talk back? Did he question the qadr of Allah? No. The command came and Ibrahim عليه السلام listened.

And while he was going away - listen to this for the sisters and the wives - she said, "Did Allah command you to do so?" And he simply affirmed, he nodded and he left. She said, "Allah will take care of us." Look at the iman of Ibrahim عليه السلام and the iman of his wife, the iman that they had, the belief in Allah, the reliance on Allah عز وجل that they know that no matter what, if Allah's command comes, you are ready to sacrifice anything and everything.

And as this baby boy grew older, Ismail finally started to communicate, started to become slowly into a young man. Allah tests Ibrahim عليه السلام with the heaviest of trials, with the heaviest of sacrifices. And Allah gives him a ru'ya that Ibrahim عليه السلام sacrifice your son. And Ibrahim عليه السلام - his whole life was going through trial and tribulation sacrifice, but this one...

So he goes to Ismail and he tells him the dream he had and he said, "What do you think, my son?" And look at the son - from the husband, the father, from the wife, the mother, and then go down to the son. The son says, "Do what Allah has commanded to you, and I'm from the patient ones." Look at Ali Ibrahim عليه السلام. May Allah reunite us with them in Jannah al-Firdous.

And as Ibrahim عليه السلام goes down to sacrifice his son as Allah commanded, Allah عز وجل replaces it with the ram. And Allah decrees that Ibrahim committed the greatest sacrifice ever, and Ibrahim was truthful to his word. And that is why he is خليل الله, خليل الرحمن. This is why he alone was granted the title of friend of Allah by Allah.

I ask everyone here today: would you not want to be friends with أرحم الراحمين? Would you not want to be from the beloved of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala? Would you not want to be by Allah's Arsh in Jannah? What a great honor Ali صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Our Sacrifice Today

And that's why we have this blessed day of Yawm al-Nahr, the day of sacrifice, where we follow his sunnah Ali صلى الله عليه وسلم, where we follow the footsteps of Ibrahim عليه السلام and sacrifice for the sake of Allah, knowing that our sacrifices - our goats, our sheep, our camels, our cows, our lamb, the meat - none of it reaches Allah عز وجل. But Allah wants to see the piety in our hearts. Allah wants to see the commitment to him subhanahu wa ta'ala, the commitment to him even with all the trials and tribulations of this world, even with the difficulties. Allah allow us to be from those who sacrifice for his sake and accept it from us.

And before we get to the second part of the khutbah, Allah عز وجل came out Ibrahim وأذن في الناس بالحج - Allah commanded him in a barren desert when he built the Ka'bah, وأذن في الناس. There was no people, there was no one there. Ibrahim عليه السلام said, "Ya Allah, we're in the middle of nowhere." Allah said, "Don't worry. Every single year go and honor Ibrahim عليه السلام." Every time we go to Umrah, we honor his wife Hajar عليه السلام.

Look at the sacrifice. And this is to show you and I: when you fear Allah, when you obey Allah, when you sacrifice for Allah عز وجل, Allah will honor you far beyond your life on this earth. Why are there so many imams that we remember their names to this day even though they have passed away? They sacrificed for Allah عز وجل. And this is a reminder for all of us: the more we sacrifice for him سبحانه وتعالى, we hear his halal and obey it, we hear his haram and we forbid it, then the more Allah will honor you and I.

Second Part of Khutbah

Akhwani, itaqillah. And the cherry on top of this day is when Allah عز وجل revealed the beautiful ayah:

Allah سبحانه وتعالى said: "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion."

Allah's Completion of Our Religion

Allah تعالى told you and I and He told Rasool Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم to tell the people in the final khutbah that today I have completed your religion, today I have made Islam my way, the only way until the day of judgment. And all praise is to Allah that you and I are from that religion. All praise is to Allah that Allah put you and I from the Ummah of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.

So we praise Allah عز و جل throughout these days and nights and we thank Him سبحانه وتعالى.

The Etiquettes of Eid

To give a brief reminder and we end with this - the etiquettes of Eid. My beloved brothers and sisters, today is a joyous day, a blessed day. Make sure you establish the ties of kinship - صلة الأرحام. Call your parents, call your siblings, call your cousins, your uncles, your aunts - all of those who you are related to, call them. Your best friends you haven't seen in a long time, call them. Your neighbors, be good to them - Muslim and non-Muslim alike. We are Ummah of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, let us follow Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Being Good to Parents

Make sure if your parents are alive, be good to them, be kind to them. And if they have passed, make dua for them and reach out to those who they were close with on this day of Eid.

My parents, please be kind and gentle with the kids, be lenient. إن شاء الله تعالى have a beautiful day - a day of joy, a day of laughter, a day of happiness تعالى.

And just like you came to Eid, go back to home praising Allah with تكبيرات and go back a different way as Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم taught us to.

The Spirit of Unity and Kindness

And again إخواني وأخواتي في الله - these are blessed, beautiful days. I beg you to smile. I beg you to smile to your spouse, smile to your siblings, smile to one another. There are many people here who might not have family, might not have relatives, might not have friends. There are many reverts in this crowd as we speak. Say salam to every single person you see.

There are so many people going through difficult times - loss of loved ones, diseases, sicknesses. You don't know what anyone is going through. So at least on this day, let us all be kind and gentle and loving to one another, because we are Ummah Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. We are brothers and we are sisters and we are one ummah, one body, one family.

So let us be that one family today. Let us enjoin in good, let us be kind, be loving, be gentle.
