Summary
Rizq: More Than Food or Money
- The concept of Rizq (provision) is often narrowly understood.
- Many people limit Rizq to only food, money, or material wealth.
- Today, we will explore the true, expansive meaning of Rizq as taught in Islam.
Love as a Divine Provision
- The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ spoke profoundly about his first wife, Khadija.
- He described his love for her as a form of Rizq.
- This highlights that emotional and spiritual blessings are also divine provisions.
Our Limited Perception of Rizq
- Initially, our understanding of Rizq is often very narrow.
- We tend to equate Rizq solely with tangible things like food on the table or money in the bank.
- This limited view prevents us from recognizing the vastness of Allah's blessings.
Misinterpreting Ar-Razzaq (The Provider)
- Our narrow view of Rizq leads to a misunderstanding of Allah's attribute, Ar-Razzaq.
- We mistakenly believe Ar-Razzaq only provides material sustenance.
- This limits our prayers and expectations from the Almighty Provider.
Allah Provides Beyond Material Wealth
- Allah provides much more than just financial stability or physical sustenance.
- His provisions are vast and encompass all forms of blessings.
- We must broaden our perspective to truly appreciate His boundless generosity.
Rizq Is More Than Food or Money
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he's asked about his first wife Khadija, there's a famous statement that he has:
"Indeed, I was given the rizq of loving her." (Sahih Muslim, Book 44, Hadith 2435)
Allah has given me the rizq of loving Khadija. So love can be a part, a form of rizq — the Prophet ﷺ is saying.
A Narrow Understanding of Rizq
Initially, people have a very narrow understanding of rizq. Food on the table. But Allah shows us that actually the rizq is much wider than that.
We, in our understanding of rizq, we misunderstand the meaning of ar-Razzaq. Because we think ar-Razzaq is the one that gives me food. So if I'm talking to ar-Razzaq, I have to ask him for food. And if my rizq is low, that means I don't have food in the fridge, I don't have money in the bank.
What Allah Truly Provides
No. When Allah provides, He provides much more than money.
He provides you love. He provides you paradise. He provides you guidance.
