Are You Teaching Your Kids What Matters?
People come to you today and say Islam is about good manners. Just be good to people, keep it simple. There's no beliefs, no aqa'id, nothing like that.
Don't go against the grain, take it easy. Qur'an, mashaAllah, my son, he's read the whole Qur'an to his teacher, his maulana, his sheikh, his mu'allim. MashaAllah.
Can your son explain to me:
Just tell me the meaning of As-Samad. Everybody here, I challenge you to ask your children this question.
What is the meaning of Allahus Samad? That's it. If they can't answer the question, you know, and I know, we are walking the same footsteps of Banu Isra'il. Because they don't know the meaning of a small surah, which is a third of the Qur'an.
That's how the Prophet described Surah Al-Ikhlas — as equivalent to a third of the Qur'an. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 5013; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 811)
Famously, Abdullah ibn Abbas said:
For me to read two surahs — small surahs — إِذَا زُلْزِلَتْ and الْقَارِعَةِ, which most of us can recite, for me to read these two small surahs knowing their meanings is better for me than to read the whole Qur'an without thinking.
