Instructions for Salatul Eid

At this point inshallah I'm going to request everyone to please stand up. Let's straighten the rows. This will probably take a minute or two. And if the kids can please take a step back inshallah. Or if they can make some space for the kids so they can fit in inshallah. Straighten lines, fill in the gaps.

Sisters, straighten lines, fill in the gaps. If there's any space inside the main hall, brothers in the back two rooms, please come inside. If there's any space in the lobby area, brothers in the multiple rooms hall, please come inside. Please come inside the lobby area. If the lobby area is full, then I request the brothers in the multiple rooms hall to please make sure the rows are straight. If the multiple rooms hall is full, then I request the brothers in the gymnasium to please make sure the rows are straight. Sisters, please make sure the rows are straight, the rows are complete. Sisters, please make sure your children are with you.

So as far as inshallah the method of performing Salatul Eid, when the imam says اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ, he makes the, or he performs the Takbirul Tahreema. After that there will be seven extra Takbirat. Seven extra Takbirat. Then followed by that there will be Qira'ah. As usual we find in Salat. In the second Qira'ah inshallah, before the imam starts his Qira'ah, there will be five extra Takbirat. Five extra Takbirat. And then inshallah followed by Qira'ah and the completion of Salat. After that of course we have a brief Khutbah. It is recommended to stay and listen to the Khutbah.

And I want to remind everyone that as the imam is making the extra Takbirat, you are not required to say the Takbirat out loud. You can say the Takbirat, everyone behind the imam can say the Takbirat quietly within themselves but not loudly. So please keep that in mind because often we see that the imam is making the Takbirat and people are making loud Takbirat behind the imam. So please make sure that you are reciting Takbirat or you are making the Takbir quietly within yourself inshallah.

Salatul Eid

Khutbah: Gratitude and Remembrance

I ask Allah that just as He has gathered us here today on this day of Eid, may Allah gather us along with our families in Jannatul Firdaus Al-A'la, in the companionship of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Sahaba. Ameen, Ya Rabbil Alameen.

Brothers and sisters, community members, fathers, mothers, children, youth, and seniors. As we stand before Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala today on this day of Eid, many of us are going through a mixture of emotions. Many of us are going through times of joy because today we are here on the day of Eid. Many of us are going through a feeling or emotion of gratitude because Allah gave us a beautiful gift known as Ramadan. He gave us the night of Laylatul Qadr, and He gave us this day of Eid. Many of us are also going through an emotion of heartbreak, sorrow, that the month of Ramadan has gone by.

And I want you to all remember that if any of you are feeling this sense and this feeling that I did not do enough in the month of Ramadan, and you have a feeling of regret, then wallahi, this is a good sign. This shows that your heart has come closer to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. And remember brothers and sisters, community members, that the objective of Ramadan is that our hearts come closer to Allah, that our hearts build up the love of Allah, and that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, He loves us.

Many of us we have this longing that we wish that Ramadan had not come to an end. But here we are today, and remember that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is Al-Wadud. That if you and I we feel that we have not done enough for Allah, we probably have not pleased Allah enough. Remember that the same Allah that was in Ramadan is the same Allah in Shawwal, and is the same Allah in the month of Dhul-Qa'dah, and all the other months of the Islamic lunar calendar. Meaning that Allah's mercy is still there, Allah's love is still there.

We talk about Allah being Al-Wadud, that He is always there with us. Never there is a situation where we have a heartbeat that Allah is not aware of it. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is closer to us, brothers and sisters, than our own heartbeat. Allah is Al-Shakur. Al-Shakur means that He is truly appreciative of what we have done. Allah understands that you and I we are weak.

We are weak. And yes, our Ramadan is probably not at that level that we want to have. But Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will truly inshallah reward us for the things that we have done. Whether it was our fasting, whether it was our qiyam, whether it was us standing up at night, or whether it was us in the last few nights, the last few days of Ramadan, just trying to drag ourselves to the finishing line. We were overcome with fatigue. We were overcome with tiredness. But we said that no matter what, no matter how tired I am, no matter how many times I have been sleep deprived, I am willing to stand before Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

The reason why you and I we did this is because we want to show Allah how much He matters to us. And once again, Allah is Al-Shakur. It's not that Allah sees perfection, Allah wants to see from us that we have tried our best.

Being Slaves of Allah

Brothers and sisters, one of the most important thing is that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is to be worshipped. Just because today is the first day of Shawwal, it does not mean that now we leave out Allah. It means that when you talk about being a slave to Allah, a slave of Allah means that you are a slave. We all are the slaves of Allah 24x7. No matter what the situation is, no matter what month it is, no matter what the weather is, no matter what the circumstances are, we all are the slaves of Allah. And a slave of Allah means that we have to always dedicate ourselves to Allah Azza wa Jal.

The Importance of Gratitude

One of the most important objectives of Ramadan, brothers and sisters, is that you and I, we develop this idea of shukr and gratitude. And today you and I, we always look at what others have, but we don't pay attention to what we have. Brothers and sisters, here in our community, in my community, all of our community, we should be appreciative to Allah for whatever He has given. Wallahi, there are so many things that we can be thankful for. And Allah says in the Quran,

If you try to count Allah's blessings, you will not be able to count all of Allah's blessings. There are so many blessings that you and I, wallahi, we're not even aware of. But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given them to us. Allah says in the Quran,

Every single ni'ma is from Allah. Allah says,

And for every single blessing, Allah is going to question us on the Day of Judgment. Allah says,

For everything that we observe around us, it is our duty, it is incumbent upon us that we appreciate Allah, and we show our shukr to Allah. And the best way to show our gratitude to Allah is not just through simple words, but it's through our actions. As they say in English, actions speak louder than words. I can sit here and say, I am appreciative, I thank Allah for what He has given me. But if I don't demonstrate that in my life, then these are just empty words.

Remembering Our Brothers and Sisters in Gaza

Brothers and sisters, community members, remember that while we are all going through this happiness, let us not forget about our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Wallahi, you and I, we are gonna go to our families, we're gonna go and have some good time. We are sitting here in a very beautiful masjid, but today their masajid have been bombarded. Today they are going back homes, they have not lost one family member. In many cases entire families have been wiped out. In many cases they have lost family members. They were there with them just in the last Eid. Today they are not with them.

Wallahi, you and I, brothers and sisters, you and I, we woke up this morning next to our loved ones. You and I, we woke up this morning, we said,

Brothers and sisters, this is a gift from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. You and I, we're able to breathe so easily without the usage of a machine. We're able to easily inhale and exhale. This is also a gift from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. The fact that we woke up this morning in the state of peace and security, and we see everything around us. You and I, we have touched and we have hugged our loved ones. This is a gift from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. You and I, we're able to come for Salatul Fajr. We're able to come here in this masjid. And we have life around us. We have people around us. Our community members around us. And there's no threat of any type.

The Greatest Gifts from Allah

This is a gift of Allah. The fact that Allah has given you and I the ability to use our faculties, whether it is our ability to see, our ability to hear, our ability to taste, our ability to talk, our ability to walk, our ability to feel. This is all a gift from Allah. And the greatest gift of all that He has given us. That you and I today, we may not realize the value of this. But we will most certainly realize the value of this gift in the akhira. And that gift is known as

And the best gift that you and I, we can be given by Allah is the fact that Allah has given us hidayah.

Had Allah not given us guidance, there is no other entity, there is no other power, there is no other being on this earth that could have given us guidance. And for all these blessings, we need to show our gratitude to Allah.

Remembering Our Ummah While Celebrating

So let's remember that on this day, let's also, let's try to keep in mind, we go through the happiness, we go through the joy, we cannot forget our brothers and sisters in Gaza. But at the same time, we appreciate Allah for everything that He has given us. And we will show and demonstrate our gratitude through our actions inshallah. May Allah grant us the tawfiq. Ameen.

Living the Spirit of Eid

On this day of Eid brothers and sisters let's try to make sure that we put aside our grudges. On this day of Eid spend quality time with your family. Wallahi friends will come and go but our family is very very important to us. Yes if we need to divide the time but do not neglect your family on this day of Eid.

Brothers and sisters there are a lot of people converts in our community. Brothers and sisters today they are all alone. If you know anyone bring them to your home. If there is any sisters of the community that they may have lost their husbands in this past year bring them to your home. If you know anyone who has gone through a separation whether fathers or mothers they have gone through a separation process they are no longer husband and wife and on this day of Eid they are going through a difficult time try to bring them to your home because at the end of the day the day of Eid is about community it's about sharing that love with one another and more importantly take your kids have a good time with them inshallah.

Last time I said in this khutbah buy your kids something on the day of Eid and this son he went to the father and said Imam Nadeem said give me a gift I want an iPhone that's not what I said. I said give your children a gift a monetary gift a type of gift that has a limitation not an iPhone so this is why brothers and sisters spend time with your children because they look forward to this day so may Allah grant all of us tawfiq.
