The Critical Role of Emotional Support

Realizing True Comfort in Allah

  • In deep struggles, we realize no one can truly bring comfort or help us like Allah.
  • No human support system can compare to the unwavering support of Allah (SWT).
  • This understanding shifts our ultimate reliance from creation to the Creator.

Allah is the Source of Everything

It would have been a failure for us if we were not given a source of knowing how to decipher through the difficulties and navigate. And this is why Allah gave us Surah Yusuf. Because the Prophet of Allah had no father to seek any advice from when he went through difficulty.

He had no mother who he could put his head on her shoulders and cry and ask her, "Oh mother, why is this happening to me?" He had no older sibling that he could seek counsel from. When a person goes through a lot, the only way they can stand back up is if they have emotional support and they have mental support. If a person goes through the trauma of life without emotional support, how are they able to stand back up? How are they able to maneuver in life once again? The Prophet didn't have it.

But he's going through the most difficulty. And this is where we understand that Allah took the responsibility of being that support system for him. So whenever he went through any difficulty, Allah says, "Don't you worry, I'm there for you."

And it is in this situation when a person realizes that no one can truly bring comfort to us. No one can truly help us. No one can support us more so than the support of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

Within that, a sense of ease enters within our hearts. That yes, I lack resources. Yes, I lack the talent. But I have Allah with me.
