Jummah Khutbah - Mufti Azeemuddin Ahmed & Imam Musa Kazim

Opening & Praise

As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Alhamdulillah. We praise Him, we ask for His help and we ask for His forgiveness. And we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide him. And whosoever He misguides, none can guide him. And we bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. He is alone and has no partner. And we bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

As for the rest, Allah has said in the Glorious Qur'an:

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةًۭ مِّن لِّسَانِى يَفْقَهُوا۟ قَوْلِى

"My Lord, open for me my heart and make easy for me my affair, and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech."

"Glory be to You, there is no knowledge for us except that which You have taught us."

"My mercy encompasses all things, and I will write it down for those who are righteous and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses."

The All-Encompassing Mercy of Allah

Respected friends, elders and brothers, mothers and sisters. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, Most Merciful, Most Gracious, Most Loving and Most Caring Lord. He has blessed us with countless blessings. And every aspect of our faith and deen that requires us to obey Him in reality is a mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Our fasting is a source of us gaining mercy. Our standing up in prayer is a source of us gaining mercy. Our being asked to give charity is a source of us gaining mercy. Every hukm and command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, the maqsad and the purpose of it — deep down all of us must realize and accept — is nothing but the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. An opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

Allah Azza wa Jal — He cannot be asked about what He does while the creation is asked about what they do. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, no one can ask Him: why did you do this? Why did you not do that? And yet Allah Azza wa Jal, He Himself says that from amongst all the things that exist, something that covers every single thing in existence — everything and anything besides Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala — Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says: My mercy encompasses everything. Everything is encompassed under My mercy.

And then Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says: I shall write it down. He is going to write this rahmah down and mandate it for anyone who is God-fearing, who is conscious of Allah, and those who pay their zakah, and those who believe in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala's verses and signs.

There is the concept of writing, respected friends, which is for you and I to appreciate and understand that you have nothing to worry about. When a person gives you his word that he will give you something, and then a person feels that they are not content yet, the person may say: would you like me to write it down for you? I can sign it. I can write on a piece of paper, an I.O.U. — I'll give it to you right now. The purpose of that is to know that you're not running away anywhere. This is a written statement. You're going to stand by that. You'll get your money back, or whatever the case may be. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, in order to make us feel content and happy, says that this mercy encompasses everything — but specifically you, you believers, those who pay your zakah, those who believe in the verses of Allah — you're definitely not going to miss this. I'm going to write it down for you.

Like Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says:

إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ

"Whenever Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala decides for something to come into existence, He says to it: Be — so it becomes." The purpose of that is for us to understand how quickly things happen. Otherwise Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is not required to say كُن. Time and space are creations of Allah. But it's for you and I to appreciate and understand how quickly things happen.

So here again, كِتَابَ — the writing it down — is something for us to understand that we have nothing to worry about. Rahman is with us. Rahim is with us. Ghafoor is with us. He is with us, supporting us and ensuring that we gain His mercy.

Two Reasons People Despair of Allah's Mercy

Respected friends, two types of people become despondent from the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

One is a person who thinks that I have sinned too much — hence, I am not going to gain the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. When in reality, none of us can say, I'm not sure if I'm going to get the mercy of Allah. Our mere existence in this world is a mercy of Allah. Our ability to walk, drive and come to the mosque is a mercy of Allah. Our ability to wake up this morning is a mercy of Allah. Our ability to have eaten at suhoor or have eaten at iftar is a mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Our body's ability to be functioning in all the facets that it is, is a mercy of Allah.

So it is sad for a person who is drowning in the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to ask himself: will I really get the mercy of Allah? Because — how did you ask this question? You asked it with your tongue? Or you used your mind to think about it? Or you wrote it somewhere? All of those faculties came from where? Came from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So the fact that we're questioning whether we're going to get the mercy of Allah — you're using the very tools that He has given you, out of His mercy, to ask that question. So this is a wrong question to ask.

But Shaytan is ever strong and is always trying to mislead people. And one of his strongest ways of misleading people is to create within them kufran al-ni'mah — to make them ungrateful to Allah. And that's why when he boastfully, arrogantly tells Allah Azza wa Jal that he's going to mislead the human beings:

ثُمَّ لَءَاتِيَنَّهُم مِّنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَٰنِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَآئِلِهِمْ ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَٰكِرِينَ

"I will come to them from before them and from behind them, and from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them grateful."

This is his method. What is the method? Create within a person a grumpiness, an angry feeling, a despondency regarding Allah, regarding the faith, regarding the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Once a person becomes grumpy, once a person becomes uninterested, once a person loses hope — it's pretty much over.

But notice that the ulama say — he tells Allah that he's going to attack from four directions: from the right, from the left, from the front, from the back. But notice that from the six jihat, from jihat al-sittah, from the six avenues, he mentioned only four. The top one and the bottom one, he didn't mention. He didn't say مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِن تَحْتِهِمْ — from above and below them.

And so the ulama explain that the top is where the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala directly descends upon a person's heart. A person's heart and a person's body — Allah's mercy descends upon them from the top. So this is reserved for Allah's mercy. Shaytan has no dakhl, cannot interject in that.

And the second direction he didn't mention — from the bottom — is because that is مَحَلُّ الافْتِقَارِ إِلَى اللهِ — that's where we put our head down and we show our need to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So Shaytan cannot hit you from the bottom either. When a person lowers his head, extends his hand, or is in sujood, making du'a to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala — rest assured, from the top, Allah's mercy is coming. From the bottom, we are yearning and running towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala's mercy.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

(Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith 979)

"The closest a person can be to Allah is while he is in prostration." When you have your head down on the actual ground, or simply bowing down in du'a and in salah, know very well that you have access to Allah, and there is no Shaytan coming in between you and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

First Story: The Man Who Asked to Be Cremated

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the story of a man who came — narrated by Abu Huraira radhiyallahu anhu. He said:

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3481; Sahih Muslim, Book 37, Hadith 6634)

A person who had never done any good in his life — and another narration says, a person who had transgressed all boundaries and had oppressed himself in sinning. When death came to him, he gathered his sons and made a bequest: "When I die, then burn my body, then take the ashes and spread half of it on the sea and half of it on land." And this old man, as he was dying, said: "I swear by Allah, if Allah were to be able to get His hands on my body, then He will punish it in a manner that He has never punished anyone else, because I have sinned like none other."

Allah ordered the ocean — and as He says: وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ — no one knows the army of Allah besides Him. And the army of Allah is everything — every single thing in existence is part of the army of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Allah ordered the oceans to bring out all the ashes, and it complied — it must comply. Allah ordered the land to gather all the ashes that were on it, and it did.

As Allah says in Surah al-Qiyamah:

أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ

"Does the human being really think that We cannot gather his bones? Yes indeed — We are able to restore even his fingertips." Every single portion of the body will be matched together, 100%. Not just a body, but even individual fingertips will be matched.

So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gathered him and asked this old man: "Why did you do this?" — although He knows very well. The man said:

"It was out of fear of You, my Lord — and You know best." And the Prophet ﷺ said: fa ghafara lahuAllah forgave him. Allah forgave him because the thing that motivated him to ask his children to cremate him was the fear of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. It was the khashiyah.

You know, we have our little kids at home — grandkids and children — and sometimes they do the craziest things that make you upset. But sometimes in that anger, they'll tell you something which will make you completely forget your anger. They'll just say something right on point. Maybe it might be cute, it might be funny. Or it might give you the real reason — that the kid was simply scared of you. And you say, well, okay, fine. The idea was that he was not trying to cause a ruckus or create problems. He was simply afraid.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is Arham al-Rahimeen — Most Merciful. The Prophet ﷺ gave us the one reason why people tend to become despondent of Allah's mercy — because they say, I've done too much. Look at this person: he did too much, and then he went the extra mile in getting himself cremated, and then he spread his ashes all over. But the thing that made him do all of that was khashiyah — and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said: fine, I'm going to forgive that.

Second Story: The Two Friends from Bani Israel

Number two — another reason why people think that forgiveness is not going to come is because of arrogance. Not thinking that about ourselves, but thinking it about other people. We think: of course Allah is going to forgive me. But that person — he is so evil, she is so bad, that they will never be forgiven. That's another reason why people get turned away from the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

The Prophet ﷺ mentions a story about that:

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 4901; authenticated by al-Albani)

Two people in Bani Israel, from the previous nations, were friends. One of them was very hardworking in his ibadah, in his acts of worship. And the other friend was a bit on the loose end — a bit sinful — and wasn't as righteous as the first one. So the first friend would keep saying: "Stop it. Enough is enough." And this friend would say: "Leave me to my Lord."

One day he found his friend sinning in a sin that he thought was just too big — he regarded it as 'azeem, as great. He said: "Stop it. I swear Allah is never going to forgive you, man. And Allah will never allow you to enter Jannah, ever."

The Prophet ﷺ said: Allah sent an angel to both of them, who took away the souls of both friends. Both souls came before Allah. Allah told the sinning soul: "Enter Jannah with My mercy." And Allah told the other one: "Do you really think you can confine My mercy away from My servant?" He said: "No, my Lord." Allah said: "Take this person to the Hellfire."

The narrator, Abu Huraira radhiyallahu anhu, says:

وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، لَتَكَلَّمَ بِكَلِمَةٍ أَوْبَقَتْ دُنْيَاهُ وَآخِرَتَهُ

"I swear by that Being in Whose Hand is my life — he said one word by which he ruined his life on earth and his life in the hereafter forever." One sentence did it — it was the nail in the coffin.

These are two reasons why people may think that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala may not forgive them. And both of these stories have proven the fact that the worst thing a person can do is become despondent of the mercy of Allah, and for a person to think that mercy is not for me.

Shahrul Rahmah — The Month of Mercy

Friends, we are now in Shahrul Rahmah. We are specifically in the days of mercy where we are doing things which will bring Allah's mercy — namely fasting, namely staying away from food and drink and sin for a solid 17 hours of the day. In the heat, all of you have to go to work at 8 AM, 9 AM, or even earlier than that. You come back late, 4 or 5 o'clock, thirsty and tired. You rest for a little bit, and then you come back to the masjid for qiyam, for taraweeh. Don't think these things are going to go unnoticed. Most definitely they are being noticed by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala very well.

They say you've got to strike when the iron is hot. Al-insanu 'abdu al-ihsan — a person becomes a slave of the one who has done kindness to him. This is how it works. You're kind to someone and they say: how can I help you? What can I do for you? Now you ask the same thing a year or two later, and he may have forgotten what you've done. We're very calculating when we give and take, are we not? Everything becomes a business, everything is bartering of services.

Allah Azza wa Jal tells us in Surah al-Fatiha — teaches us rather: you praise Allah, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin, Al-Rahmani Al-Raheem, Maliki Yawm al-Deen — and then you lay it out: Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een. Ya Allah, I'm not going anywhere else. I only worship You, and I only seek assistance from You. I'm a loyal customer of Yours, I don't go anywhere else. Then you say what you want: this is what I need, Ya Allah — organize it for me. Because I'm not going anywhere else, I'm only knocking at Your door, I'm only here. So please give me what I need the most, which is guidance to the right path.

This month, we are already fasting for so many hours and already standing up in prayer. But what we must do and must not forget is that we have to present our good deeds to Allah and ask: Ya Allah, I did this for You. The sadaqah I gave last night was for You. That person I helped out was for You. That organization I supported was for You. This fasting I'm doing, Ya Allah, and waking up early and going to sleep late at night — it is only for You. Ya Allah, please give this to me. Please give that to me. This is the time.

How sad is it when a person does everything — does the full job — and says: I'll get the paycheck when I get time. We don't do that. We are waiting for it well in advance. Allah Azza wa Jal — don't think you're being selfish. He wants us to ask. SubhanAllah — when you stand up in the night before suhoor and say: Ya Allah, my son is sick, grant him shifa. Oh Allah, I need a new car. Oh Allah, my family is not feeling well — you're doing du'a for your own self. Guess what — that's counted as one of the most powerful ibadahs. One of the weightiest ibadahs is du'a.

Believe it or not, you're asking for your college education, you're asking for extra wealth, you're asking for a promotion — and that is ibadah. That's what you call the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. You won't find that anywhere else in the world — where you are actually being rewarded for simply asking for your own needs.

So let us not forget — throughout the day, suhoor time, iftar time, after fardh salah, after jumu'ah, on the blessed day of Friday, before maghrib, after asr — utilize this time with our children at home. Encourage them as well, and ourselves and our families. Alhamdulillah, we've cooked enough — now let's sit down. Let's gather. Face towards the qibla, away from the food, and focus for a few minutes — 5 to 7 minutes. Make a list of things well in advance throughout the day. All the things that are bothering you, upsetting you, frustrating you — make a note of that, a voice note of it, whatever it may be. And say: du'a time — I'm going to ask for these things.

Every single day, my brothers and sisters, let us have one majlis with Allah. Let us have a one-on-one sitting with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala — a munajat — where we whisper our needs to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Whether they are personal needs, our siblings' needs, friends' needs, parents' needs, children's needs, or the entire ummah's needs.

And when you ask for the ummah — and I implore you and implore myself to ask for the ummah — know very well, you're not wasting your time. You have an angel right behind you saying: Ameen, Ameen, Ameen — wa laka mithlak. And may Allah give you the same. This is one of the best ways of gaining things. Imagine, while fasting, to have an angel — ma'soom, protected, preserved — make du'a for you. The way to do it is to pray for others, and you will have that.

We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to make us from amongst the mutaqabbaleen — those who are accepted. We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to grant us the ability to become from amongst those who do such actions in this month, and besides this month, that will consistently make us from amongst those who are enjoying the mercy of Allah Azza wa Jal — in terms of forgiveness, in terms of guidance. We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to accept our qiyam, our siyam, our sadaqat, our zakat, all our good deeds, our good character. We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala — the first two weeks are gone, whatever we did, may Allah accept it. But we ask that He makes the remaining two weeks better than those. And then we ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala that He gives all of us and our family members and our extended families the opportunity to find Laylatul Qadr this year, and to be able to make the most benefit of it.

Creating a Reason to Celebrate Eid

A goal that is not achievable is a perfect recipe for failure. I advise myself and everybody present here today to shy away from that — but do set short-term and long-term achievable goals. And when you do successfully achieve these goals during the month of Ramadan, you have successfully created a reason for you to celebrate Eid.

Similarly, so should be the case and the approach of every single believer every single Ramadan. And imagine how much better we will become every Ramadan. Our loved ones, our family members, will look forward to having Ramadan because they have seen this individual has become better when Ramadan came. They will look forward to see an even better person the next year. You yourself will be the first person to benefit from the good things that you achieve. But Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will not deprive those who come in contact with you — be they Muslims or non-Muslims. That is how you set up an example as a model community and rightly call yourself the ummah of Habibuna Sayyiduna Muhammad Rasulullah ﷺ.

This is one thing that I would like for all of us to do — whatever we can — to create the reason to celebrate Eid. Celebrating Eid is an achievement of what we have accomplished during the month of Ramadan.

The Levels of Fasting

In the act of ibadah — fasting — let me quickly shed some light on the essence of the fast. Fasting, yes, you have to let go of food and drink and the marital relationship. But fasting is beyond that. That was the initial stage.

Another stage of fasting is that you let go of the food and drink and the marital relationship, plus you allow yourself not to indulge in indecencies. So your eyes must fast — you should not see the things you are not supposed to see. Your ears must fast — you should not hear the things you are not supposed to hear. Your hands must fast — you should not touch the things you are not supposed to touch. Nowadays those gadgets allow you to type things. Your fingertips can be used in accordance with or against the commandments of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So shying away from that. Fasting with your feet — that you would not walk in the direction you are not supposed to go. This is another level of fasting expected of us.

So when we master the skill of letting go of food and drink, then we should also try to excel to this level of fasting.

The third level of fasting is that you fast from the first level and the second level — and at the third level, you would not even permit your mind to wander around in the areas that Allah and Rasulullah ﷺ have prohibited. See the merits? This is what is expected of us. But many of us unfortunately spend the entire Ramadan fasting only from food and drink and thinking that was the entire purpose of the fast. Certainly not.

Now that we know of all these stages — if you have been fasting, whatever you have been doing, bi-fadlillahi Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, may Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala grant acceptance to our ibadah. But in the remaining days, at least achieve one day in a way that you fast on the second level. If you are already on the second level, be on the third level of fasting. At least one fast. Let us do our best to do this.

I'tikaf — The Special Ibadah of the Last Ten Days

People would say: I am surrounded with the world and dunya and its challenges. It is very difficult for me not to see the things I am not supposed to see, not to hear the things I am not supposed to hear, and to even reach the point of not allowing my imagination to wander in prohibited areas. How is it possible? Well, look no further than my Habib, Sayyiduna Rasulullah ﷺ's life. What did he do? In the last ten days of the month of Ramadan, what is that special ibadah? It is called al-i'tikaf.

You withdraw yourself from that world full of challenges. You come into the environment of the house of Allah that provides and facilitates the environment for you to be yourself and to master the skill of rising to that highest level of fasting. Those of you who have never in your life done an i'tikaf — I urge you to do this, and you will see how Allah will open the doors of treasures upon you. Long-awaited prayers and du'as will be answered. Sisters can do their i'tikaf in their homes as well. Do undertake this valuable sunnah and enjoy the benefit of it.

Generosity in Ramadan

Be generous as much as possible during the month of Ramadan. Rasulullah ﷺ was very generous, and his generosity extended in all aspects. He was forgiving towards everyone. He forgave everybody and urged them to do the same. He granted people freedom. Allah also grants freedom from the Hellfire during the month of Ramadan. And Rasulullah ﷺ was also generous in giving charity.

I urge you to give charity, and whatever you've been giving, pray to Allah that He may accept it. And don't forget your masajid and your institutions. These are the guardians of our iman and our future generations, raising them according to Qur'an and Sunnah. It is our duty, it is our responsibility to take care of the house of Allah. It is the duty of those who believe in Allah and the Last Day to maintain the houses of Allah. We should not be waiting for others to remind and beg of us. Rather, we should be coming forward saying: what portion of the expenses of the masjid or institution can I take care of? It is to our advantage, my dear respected brothers and sisters.

Spirituality, the Ummah, and Setting an Example

Keep in mind that the month of Ramadan is the month of spirituality. We need to work on our spirituality. Be very sensitive to the needs of humanity at large. Muslims are indeed the ummah of Sayyidina Rasulullah ﷺ. He was the mercy to the universe. We represent this Habib, Sayyidina Rasulullah ﷺ. Many in humanity are in dire need of our support and assistance. Let us do whatever we can — financially, morally, physically. The least we could do is to remember them in our prayers.

Especially when it comes to Eid spending — on clothes and so on — try to reduce the amount of money you spend and save from that money. Make the niyyah this Eid: ten dollars from the money you would spend on your clothes, you will save and give in charity. If you could afford a hundred dollars from your shopping this month during Ramadan — keep someone in mind and give it to them. Let them celebrate their Eid as well.

Many non-Muslims are also adopting the fast in solidarity with Muslims. Muslims need to recognize and appreciate them as well. When they themselves are coming forward to enjoy and see the benefit of fasting, how much more cautious we should be in showing them how beautiful the fast is for us. Every single Ramadan when the fasting comes and goes, Muslims should be very clearly seen by non-Muslims as being better. And they should ask: what is the matter with you? What happened? How come you have become so nice, so different? We should be proud to say: I have just lived through the month of Ramadan and enjoyed its blessings.

If you have been reading the Qur'an, may Allah accept your reading. If you have been reading it once, twice or thrice during the month of Ramadan, I urge you — this year or next year — to read it with the meaning. Understand and familiarize yourself with what your Rabb wants from you. And once you enjoy the sweetness of the Qur'an, you would never want to let go of it, my dear respected brothers and sisters.

I pray that may Allah give us the opportunity to practice Islam in our daily life. May Allah make us among those who enjoy taqwa. May Allah make us among those who would serve His religion as expected. May Allah make us among those parents who would raise a progeny who would serve Allah's religion better than we have.

Community Announcements

Zakatul Fitr

A few announcements for the community. As we see, as quickly as Ramadan came, Ramadan is leaving. And we have an obligation as heads of households to pay the Zakatul Fitr. The Islamic Foundation highly encourages that if you want the Foundation to distribute it on your behalf, that you give it today, tomorrow, or at the latest by the middle of next week. InshaAllah we will be distributing that amount to those who are needy and those who are deserving.

Many of us have the concept that we'll give it on the way to Salatul Eid. Let's think practically here — by the time you walk in the door of the masjid to the time the imam stands on the minbar, it's not going to get to the rightful persons. So, practically speaking, give it today. InshaAllah it will be collected. There are boxes clearly marked for Zakatul Fitr — also known as Fitrah or Sadaqatul Fitr. Give $10 per person in your household. Give it today so that you can be assured that it gets to the rightful recipients. Do not hesitate and do not wait until right before Salatul Eid.

Youth Activities

This weekend, Alhamdulillah, we're kicking off another beautiful weekend of youth activities for the Foundation. Tonight, as well as every Friday night, high school and college age boys and girls are welcome to attend a special dinner. After iftar, we will all assemble in the new school basement, where we'll have some special youth-friendly food, InshaAllah. This week we're getting Eid off, so everyone is more than welcome to come through. And next week, InshaAllah, we're planning a nice barbecue. So come through — high school and college age boys and girls. We'll have a short lecture, enjoy some food and camaraderie.

After Witr, the boys — as well as every Friday night — will have a special Qiyam program, with a short lecture with myself and Mufti Azeemuddin from Darussalam. And then we'll have some time for basketball and suhoor prepared by the brothers for the brothers, MashaAllah. That's going to be totally free every Friday night.

On Saturday the 17th, the girls will have a similar girls-only Qiyam program. We highly encourage all of our young girls and all of our young boys to take advantage of all the opportunities that are out there for you.

Donations for the Masjid

Finally — and this is definitely not least — this is the month of Rahmah, the month of mercy, the month of charity. Our Prophet ﷺ was more generous in this month than he was throughout the rest of the year. We talk about acting on the Sunnah of Rasulullah ﷺ — here's a beautiful one to act upon. Give from what Allah has given you in this blessed month. Don't wait until the final ten nights. Don't wait until Laylatul Qadr. Don't wait until the 29th Khatam night. Because while those days may come, you may not. So give from what Allah has given you. May Allah reward you in those multitudes as He has promised.

The expenses for Taraweeh as well — InshaAllah we are accepting donations for that also. There will be a specific box marked for Ramadan expenses and masjid expenses. Whatever Allah has given you — it's your responsibility to give back in the way of Allah.

We ask that Allah accept our fasting, accept our sadaqah, accept our charity, accept our prayers, and accept our du'a. And may Allah accept your patience for listening. JazakumAllahu Khayr. Wassalamu alaykum. Al-Fatiha.
