اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ - Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. And all praise is due to Allah. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is none worthy of worship except Allah. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. And all praise is due to Allah. And we do not worship except Him. To Him we devote our religion, even though the disbelievers dislike it.
O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad. And upon the family of our master Muhammad. And upon the progeny of our master Muhammad. And send peace upon him much.
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
I can ask everybody to stand up so we can accommodate as many people as possible. Foot to foot, shoulder to shoulder. Try to squeeze as much as you can. Make the line straight. Make the line straight, Hasan. Heels on the line.
Okay, so Salatul Eid, we only pray twice a year so we forget. So after the first takbirah, we'll be making seven more takbirah. After the first takbirah, I will be making seven more takbirah. Then we recite the Fatiha and a surah. And then after that, after I get up for the second raka'ah, beside the takbiratul intiqal, I will make five more takbirah. Then we recite the Fatiha and another surah, and we'll give a short khutbah.
The Khutbah: Maximize Your Light on The Darkest Day
Amma ba'd, my dear, beloved, respected brothers and sisters. I ask Allah Azza wa Jal who made us witness the month of Ramadan to accept every amal we have done in Ramadan. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala make us from the people whom their names already have been listed, have been saved from the Hellfire. Ameen Ya Rabbil Alameen.
When Darkness Comes
When we are in darkness, when we are in a dark place, our senses are all alerted and our imaginations go wild. Everything is dark around me. Imagine you are in a foreign land, you don't know no one, and you don't even speak the language, and you are walking on the street, and all of a sudden it went pitch dark. How do you feel?
Imagine you are crossing a pond that is full of predators, and the only thing that will save you is the phone, the light on your phone, and all of a sudden you looked at the phone and the battery is dead. I could give you so many scenarios, but let's talk about something that is 100% is going to take place.
Crossing the Sirat: The Ultimate Test of Light
And that is, ya ikhwan, imagine when we are about to cross the Sirat. Every human being, everybody from the days of Adam till the day of judgment will be gathered and we are about to cross the Sirat - a bridge underneath it is the Hellfire.
And everybody is coming with a noor, everybody is coming with a light. The believer, the hypocrite, the non-believer - they all come with a light. And then when they get to the edge of the bridge - boom! All the lights are off. Pitch black. Like one of the Sahaba said, you put your hand like this, you will not be able to see it.
And then everybody will be screaming to the believers. The hypocrite and the non-believers will tell the believers: "Please wait, give us something, give us a little bit of your light." Go back. Now you are asking us? We have been calling you all our life to come back to Allah.
And then mass shoving will take place. Mass dropping in the Hellfire will take place. And Rasulullah shall be the first one to cross the Sirat like a blink of an eye. And he will wait at the end of Sirat. He does not go to Jannah. He will wait for his Ummah and stand at the end of the Sirat and he will say: رَبِّ سَلِّمْ سَلِّمْ، اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْ سَلِّمْ - "Ya Allah protect my Ummah, Ya Allah have peace on my Ummah." Sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
The Distribution of Light
And the distribution of the light according to how practicing we were in this dunya. Some will have a light like a mountain, some will have a light like a palm tree, some will have a light like a standing man, and some will have a light like a thumb - it keeps flickering on and off.
Iman like a mountain - nothing shakes it. No article, no threat, no protest, nothing shakes that iman. No bombing, nothing shakes that iman. Iman like a mountain.
And then there is an iman that flickers. One day hijab, one day no hijab. One day halal finance, one day haram finance. One day I pray, one day I do not pray. Sometimes I come to Jumu'ah, sometimes I neglect. Back and forth, just like that thumb, on and off on a Sirat thinner than a hair, sharper than a sword, dark pitch.
Five Practical Tips to Get Light on That Day
1. Perfection of Wudu
No matter what situation I am in, no matter what am I wearing, I'm making sure that my wudu is perfect. What's the delil? Rasulullah ﷺ he said:
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 136)
"My Ummah will be called on the day of judgment with light on their faces and light on the places of wudu because of their perfection of wudu." So wherever I am, I get up in the tired, lazy in the morning - I perfect my wudu. It's very cold - I perfect my wudu. It's very hot - I perfect my wudu.
2. Centralizing the Quran
We have to centralize the Quran in our life. We just finished the month of the Quran. Everybody is reading the Quran, everybody is trying to understand, to memorize. Excellent. May Allah keep that habit.
The Quran was not just in a halaqah, was not just to perfect the tajweed. The Quran must be our best friend. Every time we are sad, we open the Quran. When we are happy, we open the Quran. We make targets with the Quran, just like we make targets in our life. I'm gonna do this, this and that - I also have targets when it comes to the Quran.
Rasulullah ﷺ he said: "Whoever recites the Quran and learns it and works with it, he will have a light like the light of the sun. And his parents will wear the crown of light." Whomever reads the Quran and teaches the Quran and learns the Quran and applies the Quran, he will have a light like the sun on the day of judgment, and he will give his parents - this is for the hafiz - he will give his parents a crown of light on the day of judgment.
3. Walking to the Masajid
Coming to the masajid at isha and fajr:
(Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith 561)
Rasulullah ﷺ is telling us: "Give the people who come to the masajid, specially walking, with complete, complete light on the day of judgment." That means isha and fajr. Most of us are sleeping and snoring at fajr, ya ikhwan.
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 657)
"Whomsoever pray fajr in jama'ah, he is under the protection of Allah the whole day." And he will get that light where everybody is jealous of them.
4. Consistent Prayer (Salah)
Salah, salah, ya ikhwan. Please! If you pray eid from now till the day of judgment, is not equal to two fajr. Some of us come to eid and they neglect the fard. As-salah, as-salah, ya ikhwan.
Before my sister you leave to the mall, you leave to work, brother before you do anything - everything on my mind before I leave: Where am I going to pray maghrib? Where am I going to pray isha? My whole schedule is around the salah. It is the central thing of my life. Why? Listen, ya ikhwan, Rasulullah ﷺ said:
"Whomsoever is consistent, cautious, very careful with his salah, it will be light and evidence and a salvation on the day of judgment."
(Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 6576)
"And whomsoever neglect his salah - comes to Jumu'ah sometimes, comes to eid only, whenever they feel like praying - he will be no light. He will have no light, no salvation, no evidence. And listen: He will be resurrected with Fir'aun. Where is Fir'aun? He will be resurrected with Fir'aun."
5 minutes times 5 is 25 minutes out of 24 hours. You do not have it for the one who gave you everything in your life? Everything! As-salah, as-salah were the last words on the tongue of our Habib ﷺ. If you failed, try not to make your children fail with this ibadah.
5. Love for the Sake of Allah
And the last one, just because of the time: Love for the sake of Allah. Loving each other for the sake of Allah. The brother loves his brother only for the sake of Allah, and the sister loves her sister just for the sake of Allah.
Rasulullah ﷺ he said: "There are people who are servants of Allah and they are neither prophets nor martyrs, but the prophets and the martyrs are envious of them." Said, "Ya Rasulullah," the sahaba said, "Who are these people?" He said, "These are people who love one another only for the sake of Allah. There is no business between them, there is no relationship - not because he is my cousin, he is my brother, no no no. There is no kinship between them. They are not scared, they have no fear when everybody is trembling. They have no sadness when everybody is grieving."
What does it mean to love someone for the sake of Allah?
May Allah accept all our good deeds, forgive our sins, and grant us the maximum light on that darkest day. Ameen Ya Rabbil Alameen.
The Love that Guides and the Worship that Continues
When you see him, when you see her doing something wrong, you advise them. And when you see them doing something right, you take their hand and assist them. You don't say "They are going to hate me." That's not love for the sake of Allah. With gentleness, with kindness, with wisdom, you advise them.
And I make Allah my witness on this minbar, on this blessed day, that I love you all for the sake of Allah. And I beg Allah to gather us with this love under His shade when there is no shade except His shade.
Say this and ask Allah for forgiveness. And ask His forgiveness - He is the Most Forgiving.

The Same God of Ramadan and Shawwal
My beloved brothers and sisters, الحمد لله رب العالمين. Every single one of us have proven to themselves: I can come to fajr, I can fast for 30 days, I can perform qiyam. And I'm not happy - I came back at 3am, I need more! I can read the Quran, I can stay all night in du'a.
Let me tell you something: The Ilah of Ramadan is the same Ilah of Shawwal. Same God, same Ilah.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, last ayah in Surah Al-Hijr - He did not say واعبد ربك حتى ينتهي رمضان (worship your Lord until Ramadan is over). He said واعبد ربك حتى يأتيك اليقين - worship Allah until death, which is certain, comes.
The Six Days of Shawwal
We have finished Ramadan. May Allah accept from all of us. Rasulullah ﷺ said: "Whomsoever fast Ramadan and follow it by 6 days of Shawwal..." You skip today because it's haram to fast, and then you start whenever you want. It could be consecutive, it could be separate. You could combine the intention of Monday and Thursday and the 6 white days.
Rasulullah ﷺ said whomsoever does that, it is as if he fasted all his life - the whole year! Ramadan: 30 times 10 hasana is multiplied by 10 = 300. And 6 multiplied by 10 = 60. 360 - as if you fasted the whole year. What an offer! What an offer!
If you have some days in Ramadan that you missed, like our sisters, make sure you make them first. Why? Because Rasulullah ﷺ said: "Whomsoever fasts Ramadan..." And you sister, or any brother that have missed, you have not finished Ramadan yet. That's the safest way. May Allah make it easy for us to fast these 6 days.
A Day of Joy and Celebration
O brothers, today is a day of happiness and joy. Make sure you take your children somewhere fun. Make them feel that today is different than yesterday and it's different than tomorrow. Today is a very special day. From a young age, give them Eidi. Let them be happy. Let them remember: "Baba, Mama used to do this for us at Eid." And they will repeat the same thing with their children when they grow up.
But to go back - like when brother said, "What are you doing today?" "Wallahi sheikh, I'm sleeping." Ya habibi, you have a lot of time to sleep! It's not a day to sleep.
Make sure you take care of your family. Please your spouse. Make sure you go and visit your neighbors and visit your relatives. And make sure you do not practice any haram during that meeting, without mixing with the men and women. And make sure, subhanAllah, there's no haram after all this halal and after all these hasanat. We don't want to ruin them on the best day of the Eid.
Du'a
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala protect everyone. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala fill all our homes with love and mercy and tranquility. May Allah make our children the coolness of our eyes. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make our last deeds our best deeds and our last words لا إله إلا الله.
